There is a pressed in one on the outside of the block and a screw in

That was triple checked before assembly, but thanks GT. I’m pretty sure it’s either a front plug or the oil pump because I was so meticulous putting this motor together. It all went together so beautifully too, really almost zero issues. Something had to break. I should have known it was too good to be true, haha.

If what was stated in post #20 where so then the OP would have never seen the initial 60 psi that he reported about.

It looks like the oil pump is by-passing most of your oil. With cold oil and the pump turning at 500 RPM you should have way more pressure than that. If it's not the pump by-passing oil then maybe the inner valley plug is not installed in the rear of the engine as already mentioned.

6. I know about the hidden galley plug by the diz gear and it’s in place, so it’s not that.

I think he said he could see it still with distributor out?

Easiest 1st thing is take timing cover off. Then go from there.

Finally got around to pulling the timing cover off. For everybody who guessed a front oil plug blew out, your big shiny trophy is in the mail.

Special thanks to TedRamAirII for suggesting to pull the fuel pump and spin the oil pump. It sure did indicate immediately that there was a river of oil pouring out from behind the cam gear. Great suggestion.

PS amazingly I found the blown out plug rattling around behind the cam gear instead of hiding in the oil pan. It stuck out its tongue and thumbed its nose at me the vindictive little bastard! Lol

Thanks everyone for your attention and suggestions. Happily this is now a tangible repair and not just a thousand “could be” guesses. And yeah I learned a big lesson the hard way, and hopefully others here can learn from my experience. Tap those holes!

Get things squeaky clean, use red Loctite, and peen the plug in thoroughly. You probably don't want to tear the engine all the way down but threading the gallery plugs is the best solution.
