I bought a complete engine from a 69 G.P. & everything was still on the engine, so I'll look to see if this is the correct fan blade for you. Is this a solid blade or is it a clutch blade type fan blade. ?? I just went out to the garage to check & see if the fan was still there , but the only one I can find is one thats a 5 blade with the numbers 916557F77 & below that number was 10000138, but as of right now thats the only one I can find.

Default Fan Blade.

I just looked at a pic of the engine with that correct fan on the complete engine it would have been on , so I'll look in the AM to find it . I has to be in the garage somewhere I'll just have to find where I put it & then I'll get back to you about the fan blade, which is a 6 blade fan. Thanks Rex.

Thanks for checking for me Rex. The fan blades are the five blade flex fan style.

I am also in need of one of these fans. Does anyone know, were they only used on Firebirds? If so, what engines? Obviously, they were used on non-air cars. I went to a salvage yard Monday that has a 1970 Firebird in it. Car was Lucerne blue/blue std interior. 350/automatic no A/C. I thought for sure it would have the correct fan but the one sitting in the engine compartment was just one of those 4 blade steel fans. Radiator and fan shroud were already missing, so I suppose it is possible this wasn't the original fan, but need more info on these.

I looked & found a pic of the engine before I took it apart & the fan has to be out in the garage somewhere as it was on the engine when the engine was together , but the fan is a 6 blade fan from the pics. It appears to be one that was painted in the center & had the stainless blades. I'll be out there tomorrow to look for it & check closer to see what fan it is.

Can you shed any light on what engines, models and years they were used?

I went looking in the garage today & found the fan that was on my 400 from the 69 G/P engine I had. It's a 6 blade fan with the center & fan arms should be painted ?? & the fan blades are stainless steal. The blades have an extra fan blade on which would be the back side of the blade. It looks like an extra blade but it's only about 1/2 of the blade thickness & it has holes it it , but it looks like the fan blades the extra ones on the back side are able to move or come up while it spins. I have never seen a blade like this one , but I do know this G/P had HD cooling . The secondary blade can be pulled up a bit by lifting up on them , they are not tack welded to the big blade. I don't remember ever seeing a blade like this one. The G/P was a 69 with HD cooling 400 auto & posi. Anybody help with this one & or need this one. Because this seems to be an odd one , I'll put a price of just $ 45.00 plus the shipping. Thanks & heres hoping someone knows what this blade is & possibly needs it. Thanks Rex.

The earlier and later versions show up regularly on Ebay. The four rivet ones are harder to find. Starting in 70 the five blades were painted solid black.

Does 70-71 GTO use the same fan blade? I have the original flex fan and large water pump pulley off a 71 GTO with automatic no a/c, and 3.55 limited slip rear.

I read the thread and I see from the information that you posted, the 480033 was used in performance engine Firebirds (not a base 350 2bbl), A bodies and Grand Prixs with performance engines. That might make finding one a little easier.

Where is the 480033 stamped?

FunctionalSkaker - Yep that's the little bugger I'm trying to find.

OPH - Please put me down on the your list. Based on the usage information you posted in the other thread, sounds like an early 70 9791346 / "346" fan is what I need for my 70TA.

3tas4me - The 480033 is stamped on one of the fan blade support that the rivets go through.

Poncho-Mike - Great question. Unfortunately I don't know the answer.

Thanks for all the interest guys!! -Rob

The number and the date are stamped on one of the folded edges which wrap over the edge of the 5 blades. Stamped on the back side, if memory serves right.

On original '68 and 69 5 blade flex fans, I've pulled quite a few off original cars that their mfg date was nearly a year before their actual use. I replaced the original off my GT-37 due to a slight tear in one blade on the edge. It was dated 10 months before its original use. Mention these examples as some folks love to recommend 1-2 month, sometimes up to 3 months on date spans on about everything, and that's just not what we've been seeing on these early 5 blade factory flex fans.

Mike, yes that is the fan.

Rob, have pulled "346"s off early '70 GTO engines. Am betting the 480033 is correct for early 70 Birds.
Would be interesting to see what members have on original late Jan-early Feb '70 built non AC T/As and Formulas....see if any "346"s made it into 2nd Gens.

OPH, do you know if Oldsmobile or Buick would have also used this fan on the Cutlass, Skylark or even in the Chevelle? Seems that GM would have used this for more than just Pontiac.

3tas, that would be nice, but unfortunately, not so. Have yet to run across a Pontiac 5 blade flex fan under the hood of a Chebbie, Olds or Buick Performance A body. Have pulled fans off several non AC 442's. non AC '70-72 GS's, just don't see them down this way.

Since they were handy, grabbed several Pontiac Parts and Accessory Price Schedules printed through the '70's. Looked up the part number 480033, then looked to the far left column, and since no 1,3,4, or 5 in that column, the part is Pontiac only.
