Steve,
Info on my 65 GTO, 4 speed hardtop

I have owned this car since 2001. It is a very reliable cruiser with all original sheet metal and minimal rust & no bondo (to my knowledge). Before I bought it, it spent most of its life sitting in a garage as a retired drag race car. I turned the car into a good street cruiser by installing a stock, lower compression Firebird 350 2bbl engine and rebuilt Muncie trans in it. It runs great, does not use any oil and is very reliable. It is easy to drive with power steering and the power brakes work very well. I never planned on selling it but my situation has changed and now so have my plans.

Features:
-Montero red exterior with black int and black vinyl top
-power steering and power brakes
-factory tinted windows
-rally gauges
-newly rebuilt close ratio muncie 4 speed with factory Hurst shifter
-new clutch and re-surfaced flywheel
-replacement radiator and heater core
-new windshield
-12 bolt rear end, 4.56 gears, rear stabilizer bar
-all new brakes with silicon fluid
-newer headers, full exhaust and chrome splitters
-American mags with RWL tires
-floor console
-reverb (works)
-padded dash
-lower mileage, reliable, non-oil burning, Firebird 350 engine

PHS documentation is available. According to the PHS, this car is an original Montero red, tri-power 4 speed car with many nice options. It has the original vin and trim tags/rivets and they have never been tampered with. This is a highly desirable car and an excellent car to invest in.

The frame is solid and the undercarriage is very clean. The body is mostly original with the exception of a new trunk pan (the original had some rust starting so I had it replaced). The floors are original and were solid when the carpet was replaced 5 years ago (I will have to check again but I would not expect them to be any different). The gauges work except for the tach. The speedometer is good but it needs to have a cable installed. The paint job is over 30 years old and the car needs to be re-painted. The vinyl top is in very nice condition and probably only 6 years old. Overall, the body is very respectable for its age and the door/trunk/hood alignment is very good (also, it still has some T3 head lites). Interior is believed to be original except for the newer carpet and dash pad. There are some small wear spots on the bucket seats but I could not convince myself that it was necessary to re-cover them. This would be a very easy car to restore and highly desirable as it is a PHS documented tri power car.

Also, I have a 65 389 YC block, #77 heads and a used tri-power that I planned on using on this car. I can make these parts available if you are interested. Also, if this is something you might like, I will get some new photos for you this weekend.

Gary,

Sounds like just what I am looking for . . . cost is important to me too. Normally I would just finish the 71, but have run out of steam (and money for it). I also don't care about originality, and have had 2 65's over the year. I love them . . . that style is timeless. EM pics when you can . . . I am getting a ton of hit on the 71 . . but not sold yet. Will keep ya posted and thanks.

I have too many projects and nothing to drive. I like 71's. Would you consider a 70' Black on Black with Red interior project as a trade? 67K original miles, engine is done, trans is done, the body is in great shape. Needs a few small patches, no new panels are required.

I might. Got to be a 4 speed car . . . and honestly, this one is (more than likely) worth a bit more than your . . how much cash are we talking about (no offense)?

First, yes I expect to put some cash out, and yes, the 70' is a 4 speed! It is also 1 of very few starlight black / red interior cars. What are you asking for your car? Also, what options does your car have?

$22,000 . . . and it is not an AC car. Factory options, PS is the only one listing on the PHS documents (plus a 400 4 -sp car and there were only 2200 made). Original Cardinal Red w/ Black interior.

It has a very expensive COVAD custom dash panel with all UL (look on Thunder Road site to see a pciture of it, in brushed aluminum) guages too. Only thing that is not stock looking on the car. Interior is all new . . . seats and console included.

If I can, will take some pictures and send em tomorrow (e-mail if possible). You can use my e-mail too for any pcitures you have.

I've been burned out on the car for a couple yrs and it's sat in the barn.

At this point I'm not really serious about moving it but there are others higher on my list right now.

Can you post pictures if you decide to sell? Thanks Rich

Thanks for the inquiry. I will let Steve have a shot at it first. If you are interested, let me know before I list it so I (and ultimately you) can save on ebay fees. Ebay gets a lot of views but is a last resort for me.

Gary,

No real buyers on Eb yet. Plenty of lookers, but no cash in hand yet. Only one more day. Not sure what to do next (other than dump it, which I don't really want to do). Will keep ya posted.

We have a classic auto show room that sells cars around the world, sorta like Mershons. You might see if you have a local one. I will probably try that this winter if it doesn't sell otherwise. Nice warm facility for winter storage. They do however, charge 10% for selling.

Hey guys, seeing as how the putzfrau is still posting on the board (just not here for some reason), maybe we should start a letter writing campaign to her....

I was thinking we could all send her the lyrics to "So Much Cooler Online" by Brad Paisley:

I work down at The Pizza Pit
And I drive an old Hyundai
I still live with my mom and dad
I'm five foot three and overweight
I'm a sci: fi fanatic, mild asthmatic
Never been to second base

But there's a whole 'nother me
That you need to see
Go check out Myspace.

'Cause online I'm out in Hollywood
I'm six foot five and I look damn good
I drive a Maserati, I'm a black belt in karate
And I love a good glass of wine
It turns girls on that I'm mysterious
I tell 'em I don't want nothing serious
'Cause even on a slow day I can have a three-way chat
With two women at one time.

I'm so much cooler online
I'm so much cooler online.

I get home I kiss my mom
And she fixes me a snack
I head down to my basement bedroom
And fire up my Mac
In real life the only time
I've ever even been to L.A.
Was when I got the chance with the marching band
To play tuba in the Rose Parade.

But online I live in Malibu
I pose for Calvin Klein
I've been in GQ
I'm single and I'm rich
And I got a set of six-pack abs that would blow your mind
It turns girls on that I'm mysterious
I tell 'em I don't want nothing serious
'Cause even on a slow day I can have a three-way chat
With two women at one time.

I'm so much cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online.

[b]When you've got my kind of stats
It's hard to get a date
Let alone a real girlfriend
But I grow another foot and lose a bunch of weight
Every time I log in.[/b[

Online I'm out in Hollywood
I'm six foot five and I look damn good
Even on a slow day I can have a three-way chat
With two women at one time.

I'm so much cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online
I'm so much cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online.

If you're not familar with the song, here is the link to a hilarious youtube video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GcVnhNjWV0

I don't know that I'd put my return address on it (the putzfrau being an attorney and all....), just the lyrics and the link...

I'm sure the putzfrau would appreciate getting 10, 20, 30 letters in the mail....
