We seeded grass last year and the deer decided it was their winter feed lot. 8 to 12 of them show up 2 or 3 times a day on their way from yard to yard.

Our poor tiny dog goes off every time she sees them, hauls across the lawn yipping the full alarm warning until she gets to the fence. The deer know the fence is there and ignore her.

Our irrigation water will be running next week. I am excited about introducing the deer to the sprinklers.

We are on vacation driving up the northern California coast and saw a lot of what I think are calla lilies. They are huge flowers. These were at a botanic garden we walked through:

Since I retired I started gardening in earnest. I can blow off steam by pulling weeds and relax in the serenity a garden provides.

I love making things grow....especially flowers and most especially Orchids...Started when I took horticulture in Jr. High School and worked after classes in the school greenhouse. My grandparents gave me my own patch in their vegetable garden when I was 13 or 14.
My wife buys 'em, I just make 'em grow. All of the Orchids in these pics were the markdowns. She keeps an eye out for them and pays a couple of dollars for them. I nurse them back to health. Not 100% success rate but pretty good.

MaryAnn, the garden I work in here in Delaware has calla lilies planted out doors in full sun, and they come up every year. Not in bloom yet, but they're almost a foot tall right now.

I admit to being happy about chasing off the lawn rats.

They'll come back when I'm not looking but at least I now have a tool...
