TACHOMETER CUP WANTED
I am looking for a tachometer cup that I can fit into my 62 Catalina. This would mount to the left of the steering wheel in the left corner. NOT the console mounted cup, as this car has a bench seat. It is my understanding 62's did not come with a tach in this location but a 63 style cup can be mounted there? Looking for the cup only, I have a tach. Thank you. For reference, the cup has 2 horizontal mounting studs, not vertical.

63 and 64 just rotated the tach in the cup to mount on the dash. Both had an adapter to fit the curve of the dash. I have lots of 62 and 63/4 cups. PM if interested.

Tom, pretty sure all 62 tachs mounted on the console or directly on the floor. I've never seen a 62 factory tach mounted on the dash and my 67 master parts book only shows adapters for 63 and 64..

Thanks Bob for the information. Yes this car is a very nice "driver". Not numbers matching or anything like that. Originally a 389 4bbl auto. When I bought it already had a 455 and 4-speed conversion done. They did a very nice job on the stick conversion, the engine is crap, but I will take care of that. Ventura interior, nice chrome and so forth. I have a tach on the steering column and it looks pretty crappy. Dash mounted in a Pontiac cup would look much better. I will PM you soon. You may remember selling me the clock blank out for the same car. It was a beautiful piece. Thanks again.

Chief, the factory actually did have a bracket for a 62 car without a console that was mounted on the trans tunnel.I cant remember who found and posted a pic of it.I think there is a pic of someone mounting one on a 61 dash and looked pretty good.Where there's a will there's away.Tom

I have never seen a floor mounted tach without a console. Had to be impossible to see. Was it an assembly line piece or an accessory piece?

I have not either but as you know back then you could order virtually anything so if you wanted a Catalina with a factory tach it was available.Maybe someone can find the thread that showed it.Tom

Thank you for that picture. That is an odd looking adapter. How does it attach to the dash face? I see where the cup attaches to the 2 studs. Do those ugly little bracket legs screw into the dash face from the front side? Or is that adapter for a trans tunnel mount without a console? Not sure what I am looking at.

Yes, I see that now. Thanks. In my case at least, I need the tach dash mounted so I can see and use it. I would never be able to see it floor mounted. That would probably be OK for an auto trans car or someone who just wanted a tach for cool looks factor. I need one I can actually use with a manual transmission. Is there any additional adapter needed to mount the cup to a 62 dash? Sorry for the possible dumb sounding questions, but all I have is the car, no cup to trial fit or get an idea what it would look like.

I believe if you ordered a 62 GP with the standard 3-speed on the column, You got the console without the shifter plate and the ribbed plate that ran up under the dash. The tach then mounted on the carpet on the transmission hump. Don't know if the adapter was used. I've only seen one, back in the sixties.
The MPC shows a sketch of the "short" console. |

Good luck finding one of those brackets for the floor.
I have never ever seen a '61 or '62 with what I would think was a factory dash mounted tach. I have seen one or two where someone bolted a tach to the dash top, like Ford did, but they clearly were not factory installations. They mounted them on the steering column. |
