These Washington Coast pictures bring back some good memories. I logged many hours flying the area. I was stationed at Coast Guard. AIRSTA Port Angeles in 1986-1990. Our area of Operations was east to the Seattle area, West to Cape Flattery, and South to the Clearwater area. Cape Flattery lighthouse is on Tatoosh island, offshore, West of cape Flattery. We used to fly the ATON guys & gear out there to maintain the light. We did the same at Destruction Island, which is further South near Clearwater.

We flew H-52 helicopters up till 1988, when we transitioned to the H-65 helicopter.

I took this picture the day I cleaned my 1986 CJ-7 after entering in the local mud bowl event. I had duty that day, and you can see the ready-plane out on the ramp, behind my Jeep. The AIRSTA is on the end of Ediz Hook, that extends several miles out into the Straights of Juan de Fuca. I took the seats & center console out so I could remove the mud that got everywhere. I pulled a plastic plug out of the floor, drove it up the edge of the wash rack so the water & mud could drain out. There is a mooring line I normally had wrapped around my front bumper, laid-out in front of my Jeep, drying in the sun.

I had a good time flying that coastline, life sure was different looking back...lol

Thanks for sharing the memories! That must've been a blast flying up and down the coast all the time!

Nice TJ!

I only had that 1986 CJ-7 for about six years. I traded it in 1992. It was about a year old in the pictures I’ve posted in this thread. It took me a long time to realize I wanted another Jeep, but eventually I bought a 2017 JKU Sahara in 2018. It was so nice, no leaks, rattles, it was awesome, AC, electric windows, door locks, remote, nice sound system, it drove like a luxury car. However; after about a half year of driving it I realized I needed another CJ-7.

Last spring I bought a 1985 CJ-7 out in NM. I flew out to El Paso and drove it home with my youngest Kid, 2k miles in four days with no top or doors. Only in a Jeep! It’s a little rough around the edges, but it runs & drives pretty good and is reliable, as long as you stay on top of it.

I’m back in a CJ-7 again. It took about three decades to figure it out, this is my forever Jeep. I love driving it as much as possible, especially with the top and doors off in the summer.

I have big plans for my CJ-7. I have a fresh 4.7 stroker based off a 1995 Cherokee 4.0 inline six Mopar motor, going in this spring. It should make SBC power right off idle, up to over 4500 RPM, with a real flat torque curve, with most of it available well below peak, on 87 octane gas.

Next winter it gets a Dana-44 front and a Ford 9” in the back, on a SOA conversion with YJ 2.5” leafs, and a complete frame off repaint for the tub & doors. It’s nearly rust free, so it shouldn’t need a lot of metal work, just a little bodywork & paint, and a bunch on new parts to get it looking & driving nice again. It’s gonna be a monster off road too, with wider axles, good differentials and bigger mud radials.

Thanks, went for the bare gloss black factory steel wheels and wide whites just a few weeks ago and digging the vibe. The wide whites are the focal point, standing out against the black wheels, drums and lug bolts.

In the parking lot at Home Depot with my little friend picking up some lumber, this time with white factory steel wheels, chrome hubcaps and black walls.
