merging a 69 block with a 67 sprint
Good morning all,
I have done a little digging, but could not find anything specific on what i would need to do to get the most out of a 67 sprint using a 69 block. any help is greatly appreciated.

The head will bolt up no problem. if the head is a 67 sprint head, it is a closed chamber head and will give you over 11-1 compression with the longer stroke 69 250. The valves are the same size for the 230 and 250 engines.

hmm, dont want to get over 11-1 unless that can run on 93 octane?
I am completely new to the engine rebuilding thing (cars in general), so please forgive me if my questions are common knowledge. I read that the timing is set up differently on a 69 block then it is on a 67. will i run into any trouble there? thanks again

The timing marks for the cam and crank are different, but the cams are the same except the manual shifted Sprints in 69 got a bigger cam.

If you use a 66 or 67 230 1bbl head your compression ratio should be around 9.2 or 9.3 but if you use a 230 4bbl head your CR will be over 11 to 1, not really streetable. All the parts off the 67 engine that have to do with timing will bolt to a 69 block.
The only issue with using the 230 1bbl head is getting the spring pockets machined for the duel valve springs used on the 4bbl heads

I keep forgetting about the large balancer clearance issue when putting one in the 66/67 A body chassis. Glad to have your input Gary, as I have never done that particular swap!!!!

I had a '67 Sprint Lemans, advertised 10.5:1 CR, when 100 octane went away, I was using 93 and the thing would ping when accelerating from a stop.
Finally put in a 5 speed T-50 with a lower first gear and all was good, even had a .8 to 1 OD. George
