Does anyone on here own - or know of - a 4spd. TATA with a complete 74 SD455 engine.
It also had a large blue nitrous tank mounted in the trunk.
Was built by John Akes in HighPoint NC and sold in 1989 for $5500

What is the correct headliner color? I called SMS fabrics and they sent me a sample that appears to be silver in color. My original headliner was replaced before I bought my car so I have nothing to compare to. I have attached a pic. Is this correct?

That actually looks correct to me, but I'm not 100% sure.

This material has a metallic look to it. It would match the seats well. I am hoping someone with an original car will reply..

I just stumbled across this thread. I picked up a Z code TATA in December that's been sitting since 1988. Missing engine/trans and interior plastics but overall rust and dent free, aside from surface rust.

Congrats! What are your plans for it?

Good Deal. TATA's are now my second favorite T/A. I started with less than that on my first project but it was lost when a fire started in my barn. I am now finishing up a restoration on its replacement. Still waiting after a year and a half to get the motor back from the shop.

I did not know this thread existed. To answer 3tas4me question (Im sure its too late but may help someone else) Ames has a silver headliner material for these cars that is just about a perfect match. What he has shown in the pic looks right.

Plans....well I had already started on a plain Jane, no option, 79 poor man's T/A but decided I wanted something "more". I wasn't looking for a TATA, just a better optioned car. I've got a built 428, E heads, ProFlo 4 fuel injection, HR cam, a new in the box TKX 5 speed along with just about every single part you can think of sitting brand new in boxes. Brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, etc. It was all purchased for the plain Jane car but luckily I had not started putting it all together. I found this TATA and things kind of ramped up after that. This spring I've torn the car down and this is its current condition.

Sounds like a perfect fit - a loaded Anniversary car with no power train and a modernized 428 with a TKX that's ready to go. As a wise man once said "I love it when a plan comes together."

If you're documenting it you should start a build thread here or on http://www.transamcountry.com/community/ . I'd love to follow the progress. I'm sure others would too-especially with the TKX install.

Since the car will never be numbers matching I'm taking some leeway on what I do with it. I "might" be selling the gauges for it since I have a Dakota Digital RTX setup already. It shows 00335 on the odometer. The steering wheel might go to someone as well. The leather is shot but the foundation under it appears to be in good shape. I know these can be difficult parts to find in good condition. And no. It doesn't have the original stereo. That's one piece I wish was still there.

I found a small notebook in the glovebox when I got the car. It shows some maintenance and repairs done. One was at 99,XXX miles. They did head gaskets and water pump. In August of 88 they did the radiator at 000033 miles. The car is showing 00335 now. So I'm assuming they were chasing an overheating problem at the time and that it has been parked since August or September of 88.

FWIW...I tried subscribing to TA country. After a week and a half have not had my account approved. Looks like a decent site but one I'll now skip. Thanks for the suggestion though.
