pee-uh-knees, wife and I both. We have some but only couple years old. Wife grew up outside Chicago, I grew up across the north from NYC, out to Omaha, Chicago, Cleveland, and across from Philly in NJ. Mine is a mostly midwestern neutral accent. My wife grew up outside Chicago, her accent tinged by a north side Chicago influence by way of her dad.

Tap-rooter took me more than a while!

College in Chicago among the locals I took grief for my pronunciation of log or bog, I said it like lawg or bawg. Which was kinda important as the on-campus watering hole was The Bog.

I still remember listening to Mayor R.J. Daley talking (blustering) about the Bears when they were threatening to move out to Arlington Heights.

The late, great southsider announced that the Bears could move to the suburbs if they wanted to but "They won't be the Shh-cog-ah Bears. They'll be the Arlington Heights Bears." Nope, the mayor owned the City, name and all and by gawd, they would keep the City's name over his dead body. It seemed he knew how it should be pronounced to boot.

Rain 4 inches and you could drive almost anywhere. Have a two week dry spell, and get stuck if you got off the pavement with 2 wheel drive.

One of my best friends in the Army was from Dallas TX. One night after more than a few beers we had a contest where he would say either "all" or "oil" and the rest of us had to decide which one he was saying.
Not none of us could tell the difference. He got kinda pissed.

Not sure how to Pronounce them but I do have a Picture, LOL. Ours started to bloom yesterday, lots of rain here lately so they will fall over quickly.

My parents used to say it was the only place they knew of where the dust could be blowing over the water standing in the fields.

I said to my dad one time: "Ya know, when I think of heaven I picture something like a 1930's farm".

He replied thoughtfully: "Son - 1930's farms are why I'm in Michigan working in the shop."

I might be losing my ear a bit.

One time when the kids were little and still in diapers (and still quite cute!) we were on a road trip.

I stopped to use the bathroom and there were some folks inside the gas station. One said something and I didn't quite catch it but thought I heard something about a "key" and, since I was focused on using the bathroom I thought maybe it had something to do with the restroom key.

When the second person spoke I figured it out.

The first person said "...we was a-gawkin' at ya key-ids".

The second person said "...speically the bai-beh".

Sorry Jon - I fought that temptation for a full day before succumbing.

I'll let you have your thread back now.

Default Peonies

Yes, they are a very durable plant for a pretty delicate flower. My Grandparents had a 3 acre field of peonies back in the 50's-60's. They harvested them for eventual sale in NYC. We still have descendants of those plants also. It never seems to fail to get a huge rainstorm within a few days of full bloom.

Tip: The root cluster will eventually get too crowded and the flowers will get smaller and smaller. So you need to break the cluster up and replant every 10 years or so.

About a half mile from my house there are 2 fields roughly 20 acres each just for peonies. I always stop and smell them. Its a beautiful site to see the red, pink and white in full bloom. The farmer says his white ones are the prize and he gets top dollar for them.

We bought a house in Pittsburgh in 1977 and have moved 11 times since. We dug out a set of hostas ath the first house and have taken shoots from each plant to every house along the way. The last plants are still doing well in Venetia PA

The house I grew up at in Michigan always had peonies. I think my Mom may have planted them when we first moved there.
Here in Maine we have several clusters of peonies around our door yard. They just started blooming a few days ago. They are looking very good, despite the dry spring.

We moved from the Rockies to West Texas when I was 13. My parents soon bought a copy of "The Illustrated Texas Dictionary". It was fun and helped us adjust but also made me realize dialects are just that:

Our peonies are now in thermal shock mode but the daisies and day lilies still have a will to live:
