Default recreation of 63 SD Tempest road race car

A near-perfect recreation of the Pontiac Tempest that shocked the racing world in 1963 by beating Ferrari GTOs and factory Corvette ZO6s at Daytona, and in so doing served as the launchpad for the fabled Pontiac GTO later that year, will arrive later this summer at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA). The MSHFA is located on the grounds of Daytona International Speedway (DIS) where the world-beating Pontiac made history nearly 60 years ago.

It's been at Norwalk, maybe a year or two ago.

It wasn't quite complete but far enough along to see that it was going to be an excellent replica.

The Corvette guys like to post this photo.

What might not be obvious to them is that this little Tempest is passing the Corvettes (not the other way around) and is about to put them a lap down.

Talking

That photo of the 63 Lemans was photo shopped!! A liberal told me! I cant imagine the Chevy and other auto makers engineers seeing that 63 go by there best efforts. I know on local levels other makes do not like being beaten.
Thanks Keith for the photos esp the front row never saw that before.

Keith, My Uncle the Pontiac Dealer had a picture of Post# 7 Tempest on his wall at the dealership. Advertising framed thing.

Great story. I bet there is some footage in an archive somewhere; would love to see the race start to finish!

Cool car. I'm not digging the trans tunnel but overall its a nice build. Seeing this car makes me want to build another 63 Le Mans... maybe with a late model GTO IRS rear and a 6 speed.
