Default 69 gto with F vinyl top code

Trying to help a friend who's restoring a GTO for a local guy. The trim tag says 61 F for paint. I understand this is Expresso Brown, but I can't find the info for the F which is the vinyl top. This is a Baltimore built car and the interior trim is 252 which is gold with bucket seats.

any idea anyone ? and where could that vinyl top be found ? (supplier)

I don't have any record of 7 being used in 1969, doesn't mean it wasn't though.
I have 1968 having 8 as Gold.
1970 having 7 as gold.
No Gold in 1969 but it would possibly be Gold.

What is the date code on the cowl tag?

Have the drip rail moldings been pulled off? The vinyl tops were tucked under the drip rail moldings so if not, then maybe pull them off and see if you have any of the old vinyl top under there. I also have no info on code "F"

Could the F have meant ‘fawn’? Supposed to be a number 8 for dark fawn but maybe they took some liberty when stamping the trim tag. Expresso brown with a dark fawn vinyl top would have looked good.

Almost positive it’s F for dark fawn. North has weighed in on another car and he knows his stuff!

Dark fawn is a chocolate color vinyl top. Here is that color top going on my 69 GP. This is NOS material (production code on the back from july 68.

Looks great on Expresso Brown cars.

It was a popular color top on GP's and big cars, less common on GTO's but I've seen several over the years. Often seen on Expresso Brown, Antique Gold or Champagne cars.

Don't have a pic of a GTO with one but here is avintage pic of a 69 LeMans in Champagne and dark fawn.

Any opinions on how that would look with Verdoro Green? Mine originally came with Ivory I think it was ... the sorta cream color.

I was going to go with black (interior is Ivy Gold) ... seems like Dark Fawn might work too.

Did they use dark fawn I n 68. My gut reaction is that it wouldn’t go with green.

Does the cowl tag show 'F' on them for that Fawn color?

Not sure who you are asking but in 69 on the trim tag the body color is a two digit number and the convertible or vinyl top is a one letter code.

F is the trim tag code for Dark Fawn.

Yes the code for vinyl top.
(the subject of the thread)

All the docs I have don't show the code 'F', but have some that show Fawn as invoice code '8' but no cowl tag code. Code '9' is dark green with cowl tag 'G'.
Since '8' is before '9' possibly it does mean 'F' ?

Just found a doc showing 1969 Chevy having 'F' as Dark Brown.

I’m not where my books are but the Invoice (PHS) code for Dark Fawn is 8.

I bought mine at SMS in Oregon. They have NOS material but they are slow to work with!

One other thing to bear in mind with SMS if you are fussy is the position of the seams between the backlight (rear window) and trunk lid. 3 of 4 times they’ve sent me a top with the seams in the wrong place.
