Default 1965 headliner

I am looking to purchase a headliner for my 65. Eric White's book states for 65 the perforated pattern is correct but Ames sells a star pattern for 1964 to early 1965. What months defines "early" 65 and is Ames correct? My car is a 12b build so I would consider this as early but maybe early really means 9 or 10.

Ames states in the description that perforated started mid year in 65 so that would indicate March.

Also for the star pattern parchment and white are available colors from Ames but for the perforated parchment is not available only white. Are they considering white and parchment the same color?

I'm sure someone on the panel has already been there, done that, but if no one answers that question, I would have Ames send you a sample just to be safe.....

What about your big chrome pieces? When do you get them back? Very interested in your feedback..

I like to see Ames used whenever possible. The headliners they and others sell are mostly incorrect and very thin, thinner then OEM. Check with SMS out west, they had my 1965 Pattern [perforated] in the correct Blue Slate for black interior cars. I had the original in the car so I know it was a perfect match in color and thickness. The guy running the place is not the nicest guy but the office will send you samples. Good Luck.

I called Ames again regarding the headliner and sail panels and they insisted that 1964 to early 1965 received the star pattern for the headliner. So I ordered A330PC which is star pattern parchment color. I received it today and it looks white not parchment. I compared it to the headliner and sail panels in my car and they are way different. Has anyone comes across this concern. I have parchment interior and the headliner in my car is more of a ivory white and seems to blend better with the seats and door panels. The new headliner and sail panels are very stark white. I have read that a red interior would get a white headliner and a parchment interior would get a parchment headliner. Is this correct or is there only 1 color of white? These are pics showing the difference in color.

I'll be curious to hear what others here have to say. From here, it almost looks like your old sail panel is just 56 years old and has yellowed over time. But maybe this is not the case and there really is a separate "white" and "parchment" headliner? Looking at the Legendary Auto Interiors website, they only list a "white" headliner for '65 GTOs with Parchment seats.

My old sail panel was replaced 18 years ago and driven only 701 miles in 18 years so I do not think it is a fading issue.

Hello Joe. 64 white is pure white, almost tooo white. 65 is totally different. To me, the 65 parchment looks like it has gold in the color. Totally different color and does not mix well...

Call Jim. I believe he is installing a parchment interior in a friends 65..

Bill, You are correct. The parchment does have a gold tone. I ordered parchment, but it looks pure white. Maybe bagged with the incorrect label? I have samples of both white and parchment being shipped to me on Saturday so I will see whats what.

My headliner is certainly more white than my seats.

I spoke to Legendary Interiors and they told me the same thing Ames said. 1964 - early 1965 was star pattern only for the headliner. Mid year of 65 perforated became available if you ordered it but star pattern was still being used as well. As far as the white versus parchment color, Legendary told me a color match to the parchment seats and door panel was not an option for the headliner. It only came from the factory with a pure white color.
