Those Sunoco pumps had a lead seal to prevent dialing past 260, but the stations near me cut off the seal- and sold "270" to us. The 270 was selling for 15 cents during a gas war here in 1961- we filled all the 5 gallon cans we could get our hands on! [I needed the 270 for the 13:1 Pontiac in my '60 Falcon]

Anybody else on this planet campaign a M/T hemi Pontiac for eleven seasons? ... or has built a record breaking DOHC hemi four cylinder Pontiac? ... or has driven a couple laps of Nuerburgring with Tri-Power Pontiac power?(back in 1967) |

I can almost smell that gas looking at those old pics. Quite different from that slightly rotten egg smell that the unleaded has.

I have those AMERICAN letters on that gas station. New in box. First good look I seen of them in use. You think the attendant is trying to up sell some tires? LOL

more pics....these were taken after my most recent restoration
that was completed in 2004. Over the years the car has had 1 repaint in Crystal turquoise and four paint jobs in Carousel Red, 5 replacement convertible tops, 2 engine rebuilds, two tranny rebuilds, five sets of replacement seat covers,three sets of replacement door panels, four carpet replacements, about six different sets of wheels including Fenton mags, ralley 2's and Cragar SS wheels, replacement redline tires, white wall tires, white lettered tires, and blackwall tires, four exhaust systems, rear bumper rechromed four times, front bumper repainted 7 times. |
