Tire size?
What was the original size tires on a 77 Trans Am? We just put 235 / 60 15 on 8” snowflakes. Mickey Thompson’s on our car and they look to small in the wheel well.

225/70/15. its ~27.4" tall. the closest wider 60 series to match the stock height is a 255/60 at ~27.1". a 235/60 is only 26.1" tall & way to short of a tire for these cars as you have found.

If I was going to run a non stock size on these cars, I would not run anything less than a 255/60/15. The sidewall isn't short and stupid looking like the 235..

GR-70/15 is the correct size there sally.
Fired up, the factory size is on the sticker inside the door. I also know a guy who reproduces these tire decals.

I have run several sets of P235/70R15’s on my stock Rally 2 wheels. There’s an ever so rub o the subframe, I like the look. P255/60R15 would also be my choice for the 15X8 wheels.

Yeah so now that I see these outside, they’re not bad looking they will do for now. I can’t invest in another set right now, need other parts for my black car BURT.

yeah they look ok, as long as you like them thats all that matters. couple things to suggest or point out:
#1. it looks like the front of the car & possibly rear are sitting higher than stock, if the prev owner changed the front/rear springs it looks like they used universal one size fits all springs thats very common when people "restore" these cars. the front & possibly rear could easily be lowered 1"-2" for a better stance & to let the shorter tires fill the wheel well better. #2. with zero miles on the tires some places will let you return or exchange them, might be worth asking the place you bought them from? & as far as the lame "check your door sticker or owners manual" comments, you seem like a pretty resourceful person & most would assume you would check the owners manual or door sticker if you had them before asking... why "some people" on here wont help members out with a simple answer or link/referral to a part, service or info they ask about is ridiculous, the time it takes them to post a comment that doesnt help at all is pointless when they could just as easily have typed the answer. |

I’ll admit I generally research before I ask here, but just didn’t this time. The sticker in the door is missing from previous owner, and once the tires are mounted there’s no returns. You’re not the first to say the front end is high so we will look at that closer, I actually just bought two sets of tires..... $1,000 for the two sets. The other set are Cooper Cobras for my black TA. They are not yet mounted. Gonna see if we can return those and get a bigger size as they are also 235 60 15. So I can’t go buy a different set for this red car right now.

If you planning on driving the curves hard the 60 series tires will give side wall flex and that is a very uncomfortable feeling, all my tires now are 18" and 35 or 40 series

Firebird have larger wheel arches than Camaro, so don't compare them in tyre size or stance. You can get a nice tyre decal printed that includes the clear window with VIN and not the tacky shaded window.
