Carburetor Bolt HELP!
I lost the mounting bolts to my 1977 Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, bolting onto a 77 Pontiac engine. I know there are two lengths. Does anyone know the dimensions, hardness, of these 4 bolts? Were there washers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

To add to the above information, no washers on the bolts. Number 2 hardness should be plenty sufficient, although I think GM used 5 hardness, which is overkill. The bolts only need to pull the gasket snug to seal the gasket surfaces, they're not holding the engine in the car. Many people have a tendency to overtighten Q Jet bolts.
Choke up on the wrench handle you use to tighten them because overtightening just deforms the top body of the Q jet. Tighten in a crisscross sequence instead of doing front to rear sequence. That's all I have to add, hope it helps..... |
