Default 69 GTO 2 bbl Chrome Air Cleaner Lid?

I am gathering a few body parts for my 69 GTO conv, which is a factory number matching 2 barrel car. Was wondering if they came with the chrome air cleaner lid on the 2 bbl single snorkel air cleaner. thanks Chris

Wink Nope...

black like any other "regular gas" engine. I bought my '69 ragtop from the original owner. Just an FYI. Good luck. Ron BTW...does your PHS show the option? Mine incorrectly showed it as a "YS" car but vin verified with title and original owner was an older gentleman who ordered the car for his daughter. My car was also fitted for hide-away grommets but had exposed lights leading me to believe changes were made as the car was already headed down the line. My engine was "XX" code. I looked at a RA IV car for sale that listed "regular gas engine" on the PHS once. Car was raced by a dealership. Just curious. Thanks. Ron

Thanks Ron. I have all of the original paperwork and window sticker posted above. Protecto plate and sales agreement show it as 2bbl xx code hideaways, posi, limelight green and dark green int. Missing the air cleaner, need trunk lid and some quarter work. I am the third owner, second bought it to restore and let it sit in the garage.

Yes...pretty sure GTOs came with the chrome air cleaner lid as well, in '69...(2 or 4bbl)..only diff was dual snorkel for 4bbl and single snorkel for 2bbl...

i cannot say for canadian destined pontiacs.....

but the usa 2bbl vs 4bbl air cleaners, regardless of model, were different.

different in diameter, air filter element, and lid in terms of its contour.

in other words, the only thing they shared in common was that they both were round. beyond that, they were vastly different.

No, I was talking about the US 2bbl vs 4bbl lid for the '69 GTO only (I know the diameters and elements were different, but was stating that the lid was chrome)...Anyone else have original 2bbl GTOs from '69 that could chime in?

Never owned one, but going from memory (might not be a good thing...)

I cannot say for sure the difference between a 2bbl GTO and other 2bbl pontiacs, with respect to a chrome lid, but the one i scored ( for 5 bucks LOL ) while pilfering thru a yard in southern new jersey came off a 68 to 72 lemans.

I dont recall the exact year of the car, but when i was looking for things back then i would scour for 68-72 A bodys since i had a 71, and a lot would "cross pollinate".

The contour was "inverted", due to the 2bbl elements were a little taller than the standard 4bbl ones, from what i can recall. the 4bbl lids, chrome or black, were peaked.

looking back now as i type, i wish i had kept the lid when i sold the car......probably worth 500 bucks now...LOL

My 68 2bbl came with a all black air cleaner that looks like this one. Here is a picture from Franks Pontiac Parts of one they have for $45.00.

mine was black on an original unmolested car...but that does not confirm that it was correct. If a chrome on was not handy, I'm certain that they would not hold up the line. On the other hand...never seen a chrome two-barrel air cleaner myself. FWIW.

I bought a '69 two barrel GTO from the original owner about 12 years ago. The car was completely original from the carb to the rear and it had a black air cleaner lid. I'm sure it was original.

OK...so I may have been mistaken then (I might be confusing the one snorkel Chome lid from '68 4bbl GTO or the '69 G/P's maybe?)...

Another vote for the black lid. I have a complete setup from a 69 two barrel that I parted out some years back.

Spirited discussion, just the way I like it! Thanks for the replies. I will go with the black lid for my car. Chris

Default 1969 2bl car

Just curious if you are looking for another complete engine and tranny for your car.
I have a complete never dissasembled engine and tranny in a 69 gto and is a 2bl with auto. The car is really rough although the vehicle ran when parked. I hate to see it go to waist, i am selling the whole car or just the engine and tranny if you are interested. thanks george call 4403210500 if interested or email at geo71gt37@yahoo.com

Chris, I may not be seeing this correctly, but where on your window sticker does it state it was a 2-barrel car?

I don't believe the two barrel will not be noted on the window sticker because it was a no-cost option.
