Pics of interesting stuff on this car.

Last pic highlights the pad marks that held the hood when it was painted at the factory.

Next to last is the P/S cooler I was suprised to see.

Never seen the Ink stamps on a convertor before, nor the front pump, nice to find the paint daub on the Steering box also.

Looks like a real step up, Mike. No stitch marks like Frankenstein's monster.

Anyway, it's nice and looks like it has a lot of potential.

Cool pics Mike! The drum tag is your rear axle code, amazing that its still there! "2F" is a 3.23 open. Same stamp code will be on the driver's side axle tube as well. Neat stuff!

I can see what I assume is the build sheet poking out from under the fuel tank insulator also. I've not taken the time to pull the tank to retrieve it yet tho.

What do you mean? Mine sat 18 years before I flogged it for 2 weeks and now a rod is knocking. Wait...I think I just answered my own question. =)

I'm not concerned about this engine, it's the rest of the driveline I don't trust!

Mike,

I havent read the thread so dont know if you need parts..but: a member in FIREBIRD PARTS FOR SALE section under ad: 64-80 Firebird and GTO Parts has two 69 GP doors for sale.

Just a FYI if they are hard to find......they are burried in his long ad.

Jeff I saw them, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the door yet. I may pull it and see how it looks. I may get lazy and replace it. I've got a line on a rust free used one that's relatively close.

Changed the RR axle seal today. Pulled the axle, sat it on the floor shaft up picked it up to reinstall it and a stud broke in two when I picked it up!

Needless to say all the lug studs are getting replaced!

Registered it also, installed the plates not happy with the bolt/ nut setup the P/O used.

Still need to do the front studs and pack the bearings.

Mufflers and T-pipes will probably be installed Wed or Thurs.

Planning on a shake down run Sat.

Hopefully this documentation will help someone restoring one back for points.

When I restore this car I'll need them also!

Got the fuel guage working yesterday afternoon, turned out to be a poor conection between the tank sender and the wire. Functions now.

I got a SERIOUS itch to drive her and took her out for the first semi major shakedown run last night. About 100 miles of backroad cruising. No major problems short of the fact that I burnt the rest of the Mufflers out, sounds like open headers now. That's gonna change., I couldn't keep a conversation with myself let alone anyone else!

Exhaust ran last night, RH tailpipes are a bitch on these cars. Ended up making in two pieces.
I'm seriously thinking about a Pypes system on her when funds loosen up a bit. Did another hundred miles last night. Control arm bushings are going to be a must in the front but other than that no big issues I can see. Will know more tomorrow as I'm taking it to a B-day party about 90 miles NE of here. We'll see how she does then.

Ran into an interesting issue with her. The Ceramic pads I put on the front are dusting the wheels. That's gonna change and soon, but this is the first set out of well over 200 that I've installed that does this. Car stops well just turns the wheels black on the front. brakes aren't dragging, calipers aren't sticking but these will filthy up the wheels in 20 miles of normal driving.

A/C will be next when I get time.
