Default WIW - '69 SJ

I am going to look at a '69 SJ tonight. I saw the car last year at a car show. Its a one family owned garage kept California car.... NO RUST. Original Vedero Green(?) paint etc.. Its not a cherry mint car but a very well preserved original car. It has the usual SJ goodies... 428 etc.. but has Ivy Gold(?) cloth interior(yuck) but in very nice shape. The car has right around 100,000 miles and is untouched with the exception of maintnence items. The car could easily be used as a daily driver in as is condition. I don't have any pictures. I have an idea on what I'm going to offer... just wanted some other opinions as these cars seem to be all over the place in price.... any ideas?

Between 3500 to 5000 for a lightly optioned GP seems fair. Fully loaded (air, pw, pdl, tilt w/cruise, etc.) will add to these figures somewhat.

Sounds like a good one to me, just the way you want to find them. I'd say that's at least an $8K to $12K car in today's market if in nice shape. '69 SJ's are what most desire from this era of GP's. Color combo may hurt it a bit...

I ended up buying the car for $5000. The car does have leather... not cloth. The interior is a butterscotch color. Its loaded up with all the goodies including AM-FM, tach and gauges etc. A/C blows ice cold! Its a black plate car that was bought new in Visalia... still has the original plate frames and the original windshield with a 1974 California inspection sticker.

Thumbs up Nice score!!!

You did very well at that price, especially with leather interior! How is the condition of the leather? Looking forward to some pictures!

The leather is really nice... especially for being 42 years old. I should be able to get some pics up in a day or two.

That's great! Having the leather in nice shape is a huge plus since its very costly to have redone. Oh well, that would have been the icing on the cake so I had to ask. I'd still call that deal "lucky" any day of the week!

I really lucked out as the car pretty much fell in my lap and was never advertised or on the open market. They didn't want the car to fall into the wrong hands.

Nice to know there's still deals like this out there. That's the best way to buy them. Did you happen to get any of the original purchase paperwork, window sticker, pop... etc.? Looking forward to the pics. Better yet, I should just drive down and see your cars in person sometime!

I was too much in awe to ask for anything else... but I have they're number and plan on giving them a call to see if they have anything else.

Some more pics.

Just from what I can see:

SJ package - 428 etc
Leather
p/seat
p/windows
AM-FM
A/C - ice cold
Rallys
tach and gauges
wood wheel
tilt wheel
vinyl top

I need to stab a jack under the rear and see if it has posi. The car does need a couple of things such as... upper control arm bushings, a set of shocks, valve cover gaskets and a detail.

Sounds great! I will let you know of any upcoming car shows. Kind of short notice, but there is a nice event in old town Fair Oaks this Sunday that I've been to a few times.

I can imagine! I wouldn't be surprised if they kept everything from new. Cross your fingers!
