'67-'69 Firebird Deck Lid Shims
Anyone ever see factory installed shims on a '67-69 Firebird Deck Lid
(between Hinges and Deck Lid) I recall seeing what appeared to be fender style shims on a '68 Firebird and Camaro years ago. Wondering if factory ever did this to achieve proper fit/flush. Thanks.

I have never experienced the factory using shims on any 1st get F body deck lid. With that said, the 1st gen trunk to quarter heights are rarely on the same plane, especially in the corners. In order do get the trunk lid to sit even you have to get a little creative. Make sure you have everything in place(quarter stiffeners and trunk gutter) and you can use a bottle jack to bring the quarter up and 2x4 to make adjustments.

John,
My trunk lid was shimmed. I don't know if it was done at the factory or afterwards. I'm sure I kept the shim. The only question is whether or not I labeled it. Eventually I'll get around to looking for it. Old Joe |
