for sale not mine...
Here is a 66 for you OHC 6 guys. Read the fine print NO TITLE! If it had one I'd snatch it up.

It's been posted in the For Sale section but they were asking double.
Glad they cleaned off all the mold and made the car a bit more presentable. If it were anywhere near me I'd be having a closer look for sure. There was also a post in the 66-67 tech section about the Data tag; http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=848622

Man, that is a smoking’ deal. Too bad it’s so far from me. The shipping would double the cost.

Yeah, at that price it won't last long.... I don't think so anyway.

I passed on this when it first showed on CL before being posted here. No title = Dealbreaker for me and tons of others - unless I really need a parts car.

Titles don't mean a thing down here on a car that old. The state has a form that you fill out. You take it to any patrol cop, have him verify the VIN, he checks to see if it's reported stolen. As long as it doesn't show up as reported stolen and you have a bill of sale from the last registered owner. You're good to go. You don't even need it notarized.

It's not nearly that easy here on the west coast. The people who claim it is always seem to be the same ones selling cars without titles!

I've always had older cars around and for daily drivers for the most part. When speaking of cars older than 1990 or so, I've had probably no more than one or two cars with titles.

Greg, I’ve heard this about a few states. So what happens if someone sells you a car they don’t own? Will the cops down there run a vin for a person before you pay for it? It just seems less likely to screwed if the seller has the car & the title. I guess the registration would prove ownership but what if the car isn’t tagged? Just curious Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

If possible take better/more detail pics.
I always like to catalog these old cammers. Cheers.

If the car isn't tagged, it's supposed to be recorded as a non driver. It would still be in the owner's name. I've taken cars off the road and you fill out a form. That's just to get you around the insurance mandate so they won't suspend registration. So, they still have a record of who it's registered to. Now, if it's something like a 'barn find' and they have no recent registration of it at all, so technically as far as their records are concerned the seller didn't 'own' it...well, that's something I haven't done YET. My '66 fits that category (except for the barn..lol). I had a cop fill out the form and went to the DMV. They told me that I couldn't register it until I wanted to insure it and buy a tag. I'm not ready to do that yet. I expect it will be a pain but as a last resort, I can always go to a title service. The important thing is that it's never been reported stolen. By the way, the rules here say that they will NOT title a vehicle built before 1962 even if you want one. They WILL title a car made between '62 and '85 if you want it but it's not required. I can tell you for a fact that they won't tell you that if you go to the window and request a title. I have asked for a title on a couple of late '60s and early '70s cars and they will tell you that they don't issue titles for cars before 1985. I never pressed it. When I go to the DMV I just want to get out of there with my tag ASAP. EDIT- I just looked on the GA DMV site and now understand why they told me that. The title has to be in the original holder's name if you want a replacement title for a pre '85 car.

Thanks for the detailed reply,Greg!
I think I will check at the county courthouse & see if there are any gotcha’s on their end. They still issue titles in Ks. Thanks again! Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Meanwhile...that ad is still active. $3,000...... If that was around here my wife would be shaking her head right now because I think I'd have to go get it.

I sure as heck don't need another car! Going to look at it Sunday and will get pics. If the engine turns over? Well maybe? Damn I don't need another car! But these don't show up every day these days???

No response from the owner? Can't believe someone who has had a car on the market for several months not responding to an inquiry? Maybe I'm just an attentive seller and pay attention to possible buyers.
