1966 flexplate part number?
I've got a flexplate on the 66 OHC that I bought, but I think it might be a V8 flexplate.
I don't have a 1966 chassis parts book. Anyone know the part number for the base 1966 OHC flexplate?

1966 Chassis Parts Book says group 0.666 1966 Tempest 6 with AutoTrans flywheel assembly is part # 9782927. It does not specify different part numbers for base or 4 barrel engine.

FWIW...
The Flywheels &/or Flexplates are the same for all 66-69 both 1BC & 4BC models.

Thanks!
Thanks for the quick responses, Bill & Jeff.
Of course, the flexplate on my engine is not correct. Glad I checked! Joe

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a V-8 flexplate won't bolt to the OHC engines... The bolt pattern is different if I'm not mistaken. That and the V-8's are externally balanced whereas the OHC's are internal.

The flexplate that came with this engine is GM #9779070. That is appraently the correct flexplate for Pontiac 65-74 V8 with THM400 transmission, so I figured it must not be correct for my OHC application. But I also found a reference that shows it is correct for the OHC with ST300 trans, which is the transmission that came with this engine. I'm currently looking for a 9782927 flexplate that was mentioned in the earlier posts, but this 9779070 flexplate definitely fits on the crankshaft.

I don't show that number listed in the parts book for Pontiac,
but did see a few old online posts listing it as Pontiac V8 and some stating late OHC 6?? It was also shown as a 14" 166teeth ring which is the same. As far as I know, the bolt patterns are the same across the board. Have you mocked it up with a stock starter to see if it would fit?

Sorry Jeff, I replied on 11/6, but my reply is MIA.
Yes, the starter interfaces with this flexplate. I test-started the engine with this flexplate. Joe

I have found that the number I thought was the flexplate number (9779070) is actually the ring gear number.
I was able to find a correct flexplate. Thanks all for responding.
