Default New Member to the Forum

I have recently started viewing the forum and have noticed several members from the TAC site and other forums with familiar names, and when I saw the thread about the event at Island it got me thinking to join and perhaps share with some folks local too.

I have a 79 TA in the garage half painted and a 79 AMC Spirit GT that I bracket race in Pro at Island Dragway.

I hope to be able to fit racing and finish the bodywork in this summer.
I’ve had a slow start due to the weather on days I had to work on it, and being a bit burned out from doing the Pro Bracket Camaro over that my Cousin owns and races. I replaced the T-top roof with a hardtop and gave it an R-M vintage paint scheme.

I think you will have to click on the link

https://imgur.com/a/v0VBTsl

Posting pics from the IPad stinks.
I’ll post some of my two cars later, but you could also check out the thread about Island too

Thanks
JT

Thanks John.
I've followed you and your site for quite a while.

Here are a couple pictures you wont have to click on

First the R-M Camaro >>> this was a lot of fun to do
Started the Saturday after last Thanksgiving and finished it April 16, the day before the first points outing

Here is a picture of the TA just before the paint project started
Its an original 400 / 4spd / T-Top TA that came to me with a 455 in it.
I have done a bunch of mechanical and other upgrades to it while waiting to paint it.
It has a TKO600 with the 0.82 5th and a 3.08 to match it; and overall the 1st and 2nd gear ratios are close to the stock T-10 and 3.23s
It has home made frame connectors and down tube connecting the cowl to the front of the subframe.
I replaced the gauges with a setup from Speedhut
The last major upgrade was the FiTech TB which really changed owning and daily driving a 40 year old car

Here is a picture of the AMC
I have had the car since 1984 and it has had at least (x5) drivetrain iterations.
It has a mild 0.30 over 401, TH400 and 4.30s in a 9" and runs 11.20's give or take a bit depending on the day.

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to participating in the site

JT

MisterP266,

Thanks for the compliment.
It's not the first R-M tribute but I thought it would be a fun thing to do and my Cousin agreed.
We had a friend make the Heights Racing logo in the R-M font and put the engine builders decal where the Lee Shepherd info was >>> sorry Lee.
The main reason for taking on the project was to swap the T-Top roof with a hardtop I got with a parts car I got the doors off of for the TA project i am doing. The tops were painted black making it extra hot in the car and were lifting off at 140+ going through the speed traps.

72Projectbird,

I believe I know your forum names on each too. Didn't you have a Corvette project going on too?

Drag Star Lemans,

The gauges are from Speedhut.
They are great quality and priced better than Autometer. and I think they are a better product than Dakota Digital. They are the Revolution line.
I removed the cluster and had to modify the dash behind the cluster.
I made an assembly to reinforce the bezel and modified it to fit the larger gauges.
The directional indicators are an LED assembly I made using green plastic from a plate I bought at a dollar store to fit in the arrow shaped cutout

Thanks to all for the welcomes
JT

Nice rides, what color are you going to paint the TA? Looked like a decent driver in the pics

Here is some info on the TA project and some pics of the current state.

I started the paint project back in the Fall of 2019 with the prep of the doors I bought of a parts car the repairing of a TA fender I got when I purchased the car. I used the car as a DD whenever weather permitted which finally ran out around November. at that point I started stripping the car and taking care of the metal work required. It was really in great shape including the floor pans for being a T-top car. The C-19 deal really did not slow down the project and perhaps even accelerated it since you couldn't do much else. I got the car back to my house to start painting and got as far as getting the shell painted and then an work project in NC put and end hopes to go further. When the weather turned I started doing as much as I could to the shell like sanding and polishing and restoring the T-tops. I have to get motivated and spend more time in the garage than I do or this will spill into 2022.

Pictures >>> The color is a modern GM metallic silver, Switchblade

Thanks
JT

I have a question while the post / reply I just added is being reviewed.
Is it due to:
- Being new?
- Too many pictures in one post
- hitting quick reply instead of reply (I know I did that in the last reply with pictures) I think I just started typing and adding pics in the open field below the posts.

Just curious

The T/A is looking slick!

I like the modern color. Do I spy Recaros?

Thanks for the update on the posts
No worries >>> Dig the resistance to the forces that would turn it into a porn site or a playground for spammers.
I hope my post did not seem like I was being impatient.

The seats are Corbeaus and they're OK I guess but the side bolsters could be a little lower, and the fabric is fading big time.
The quality reflects the price though.
I bought replacement upholstery from UPI (I think?) and it was crap.
I then bought the seats in the car now
I would not buy the same seats again but we will worry about that later.

I dig a silver car.
The AMC is the same silver.
It was a color called Quicksilver when new and the first two times I had it painted I could get a code and have it made.
Not as fortunate the last time I painted it so I got the Switchblade.

The TA was originally Martinique Blue but was silver when I got it... so you know, whey mess with it?

Thanks
JT
