Hi all, I've been looking for an Edelbrock Performer intake for my 76 TA on ebay. There seems to be three flavors of Performer style intakes: Performer, PB4 and SP2P. Are these the same (just renamed) or is one any better than the others?

Thanks!

They are not the same. Stick with the regular performer. The p4b and the sp2p have smaller intake runners. Not recommended for performance use. Can't give those away anymore, that's why they're on ebay.

You want the Performer. The P4B ('P'ontiac '4' 'B'arrel) is the early forerunner of the Performer, the Performer is superior to it. The SP2P ('S'ingle 'P'lane '2' 'P'lane) is an economy manifold with tiny runners made for about 500 to 3500 RPM running, a 'turd' of an intake for sure.

Let's go racing!

If you are looking at an aluminum intake on Ebay, try to get pictures of the front coolant ports, the water pump port boss and the water neck boss. Many aluminum intakes are severely pitted in these areas. I'm not saying it will leak, but it drops the value in my opinion.

Use a stock 4-bbl intake from '68 - '72, they're better than the Performer, and lots cheaper. This was passed on to me by another member when I posted almost the same question Nov 12.Good luck and have a good one!!!

You can't use a HEI factory type distributor with them.

The SP2P was origianlly designed as a Stock replacement for the stock intake and supposed better gas mileage back when the gas crunch started. The aftermarket manufactures were looking for ways to sell parts and survive.

Build it fast, build it right, build a Pontiac.
