Picked up this thing on marketplace a few months ago.....

The good:

Only $300 bucks with a clean title and that included a brand new hitch carrier to haul it away.

The bad:

Seller claimed it was running fine up until the wiring near the headlight started smoking and shut down on him.

The ugly:

Motor locked up from sitting for a couple of years, wiring harness was toast and missing a gas tank and ignition box.

I filled the cylinder up with Kroil and let it sit for a few days before breaking her loose.

Picked up a new CDI box on EBay for $6 bucks and ghettorigged the wiring just to get spark.

Sprayed a little starter fluid and she fired right up

Rattle canned the fenders along with a new 883 tank

Still in the middle of wiring up the lights and stuff, but she runs great

Here is the last street bike I built, about 35 years ago. Built numerous vintage race bikes since then. This one started out as a pile of parts in the back of a pickup, originally a 75 FXE, added lots of early FLH parts and a mix of modern aftermarket. Sportster air cleaner, FLH forks cut down 2", FLH tanks, FLH wheels, bobbed rear fender. Was a good bike, put a lot of miles on it.

I had a 2000 RC51 as well, sweet bike! I installed CBR954 clip ons on it and it really helped with the riding position.

Current ride, "Gracie." 2021 Street Glide.

I use her for everything. Long scoots with all the touring add-ons, and local rides stripped down.

My good ole RK. Almost a classic at this point.

MR. Pont. I may be out of the loop with new bikes, what are the gold cylinders behind the bags?

Those are O'hlins brand compression cylinders tied to the rear shocks. You can quickly dial the compression rate softer or firmer to adjust for riding conditions.

The factory rear shocks on the Street Glide are short, and though one was adjustable, it's not enough to compensate for the kind of riding I do. I got tired of bottoming out on rough roads. So I upgraded the rear shocks to fully adjustable coil-overs from O'hlins, which include those compression cylinders. More than needed, but a worthwhile upgrade to me.

I think my riding days are over, but seeing this on BaT makes me want to reconsider.

This is Baby. We met when she was new in ‘88. At the dealership. Used creative financing and rode her home. No name but mine has ever been on the title. Oh yeah, she’s carbureted and starts hard sometimes. Hence the name. As in ‘ Come on Baby, please?’

Nice looking Heritage. My brother bought one in '86 (still has it).
That was the first year and they were very limited production. He saw a blip about them in a motorcycle magazine and we went the next day to the local HD dealer (who was also a Snapper lawn mower dealer as well, LOL). The guy had no idea about the bike that was coming out. The word was that each dealer would get ONE to sell. My brother gave him a deposit and said he wanted it when it came in. Funny thing was that the old guy had never taken a deposit on a motorcycle before, let alone one that he didnt even have in his possession or know when/if it was going to be there. About 6 months later the call came that the bike was at his shop. Cost about $9K.

I will add, my 'ole Road King is a 5 sp. and carb. Have ridden in most of the country with it and never had a problem. I joke to my buddies with their shiny new bikes and fat payments that my girl might be the ugliest at the ball but she gets up for every dance.

This is my 04 FXD. Just after I had it repainted. Only differance now is it has a Sundowner solo seat I put on it since my wife couldnt ride with me anymore at the time. Due to a medical issue I have only put about 13Kms on it in the last 4 years.
