Default 400 engine in a 1960

So Im installing a 1967 GTO-400 engine in my 1960.Im also installing a 400 Turbo trans and I know I have to do a few Modifications to get it all to fit.

Does any one have any knowledge as far any mods I have to get done to get it to fit correctly. Is it OK to run the stock Diff?Im thinking yes.

So far I know the "propeller" shaft has to get resized and ditto with the Tranny mounts.

I have a Turbo 400 short tail trans and going with a Hurst floor mount shifter.I have a new aluminum radiator and Oil cooler.I rebuilt the engine already and will have the Tranny gone thru before I install it.Besides that, Everything is staying the same.Well, Im also ditching my old generator and gonna get me an alternator and new starter.

I'm not sure on the 400 length vs the hydramatic but they have the same output shafts so the driveshaft yoke won't need to be changed. Keep the stop diff

I'm also not sure on the cross member mount location. When I put a Muncie in my 59 it was only off by about an inch so I made a plate out of 3/8" to make it work.

The hydramtics were pretty big trans but I have heard people say you will have to cut the tunnel. Not sure if that is true. Maybe pull that old hydramatic out and compare the two

I put a 73 400 and turbo 400 short tail in my 62 cat safari. No mods needed to the trans tunnel. I used a cross member available for 55 chevys($70.00) and welded flat stock to extend it. I also worked perfect for my 3" exhaust x pipe system. I will post pics and all the info tonight.

The 61-64 floors and trans tunnels are different than the 59-60s. Still, I do not think you will have any interference with the floor. You can use your stock 59 motor mounts on the 67 engine, exhaust will bolt up too. your main work will be the trans cross member and shift linkage.
The rear end in your '60 is much stronger than the rear that was behind your 67 GTO engine so no issues with comparitive strength.
My guess is your 60 will drop about 100-150 pounds doing this. Both the later engine and trans is lighter.

Here are some pics of the crossmember. I ordered it from C&P...http://www.cpchevy.com/. The part number is 10639. It was 75.00.

I cant find the pics I took of it installed. When I find them I can post if anyone is interested. I have the Ram Air Resto Long branch manifolds 2 1/2 inch with 3" exhaust. The pipes are centered through the cross member bends perfectly.

Like Steve said the engine bolted right up to the stock mounts. I did have to have a drive shaft made.
