JUNK!

It kills me.

WH block sitting there for my car useless!
That would be a lot of work/$... but even if the front face with the numbers was pitted..., as long as it was readable I wouldn't restamp it. And the rest of the work/$ would probably be a good investment for the person who has the rest of the car that it went with, I should think.

I suppose maybe it would be worth it for numbers matching but for me to just be correct when I have a RAII block and a RAIV SR short block already not worth it.

This thing is crusty as hell and that was 4 or 5 years ago.

Plus I would never allow Mark S to get his hands on this block after screwing me on the car deal.

Id smash it into millions of pieces with my excavator first!.LOL

i would pay a few dollars to take a whack at it. i would rather it be crushed than to let that piece of @#$% have it.

Default Factory Markings.....

Does anyone know what "8458" means or represents?
Just curious if you ever found out what these markings were? I'm no expert, but I've also inquired about similar markings on a few Pontiac's that I've owned over the years that all came from different dealers. I researched this and found that it was common for some dealers to write their stock numbers on different areas of the engine compartment after the vehicles came off the trucks. On two of my '69 Grand Prix's they actually used white paint on top of the inner fenders to document when the "PDS" or Pre-Delivery Service was done. Perhaps this was your selling dealer's stock number for your car? By chance do have any original dealer paperwork from the original sale that may show a stock number?

To be honest I'm a bit surprised someone on this list hasn't broken the code (drawing from past cars/examples as a guide?)

Anyhow, to date it's still a complete mystery.
(And yep I've checked all the paperwork I have for possible cross correlations etc).

So far, Nada...
