You said cast in 8 without numbers and that would lead me to think early 722's.

My '69 Firebird WZ came with #62's. I don't think any published authority can be taken as gospel.

They have the R & A on the two end ports - that would be RA II. Also the D228 without the #96 is a very common casting.....if you can actually say that about a RA II head.

Dang Chris, you may as well become a II expert instead of looking for a IV.

Still need that Judge!

I've found one, and it's the right one, just have to pony up the cash.

While we're on the subject of 68 RAII's, can someone please either post a picture (or describe) how the upper pan is mounted? The 67/68 upper pan is pentagon shaped, has 5 mounting bolts. At the peak of that pentagon (furthest point forward), there is a bolt hole. There isn't any bracing or factory hole in the inner structure to bolt the pan to.

Pictures?

Mike, how about factory/dealer RA installation instructions instead? :-)

I found this in the glove box of my RA II bird when I bought the car. I was shell-shocked when I saw this! After I sent him scanned images of the documents Geoff Martin at the FGF site put these up in his FAQ section...Here are the links to the images. They are ~440Kb each.

Haven't seen anything like this before or since.

Could be, its been a while... :-) As I said, these were originally found in my car's glove box. Did you 'clean up' the original scans somewhat? If so, nice job. I still have the nearly-dried-out originals in one of my car file folders. These images look better than the original documents I have. I guess thats once of the advantages of having digital records...They can be 'enhanecd' and they don't degrade!

Excellent info, thank you. You won't believe this, but I had page 1, but never saw page 2!

So now here's a question; in the diagram, where does "hole A" exist in the inner hood structure? This area is scalloped away in the structure, and no provision for a bolt.

Mike since my Firebird is at home and I can't go look for myself to compare, could your hood be modified slightly?

Steve, no, all the hoods are like this. It's the area between the scoops where the bracing isn't at the same level as the rest of the underhood bracing. That was what I meant by "scalloped away".

I think I may have found the answer though. In the diagram, it states to drill holes. I thought the 69 hoods already had the necessary holes to mount the 69 upper pan, perhaps the 67/68 hoods had no holes at all.

Were the 67/68 factory Ram Air cars delivered with the assemblies in the trunk, and the dealer(s) followed the instructions to open the scoops, drill holes, etc?

I'm not sure if the 69's were pre drilled, but sounds like a perfectly good deduction to me about the 67 and 68.

Actually, Cammer, I don't think it's a freak. I believe PMD matched head selection with cam selection. Applications with the 067 cam received the 62 head and applications with the 068 cam received the 48 head. Does that work with your understanding of head uses?
