Default 62 Bonneville trim removal

Can some one enlighten me on how to get the rear 1/4 panel trim off a 62' Bonneville? I removed the rear seat and inside side panels and was able to get three of the studs free. The problem is there appears to be 3-4 more that are located right above the rear wheels that I can't touch, or see. This area seems to be a double wall construction. Help!

'62 Bonne 2dr?

The wide, chrome trim that lives in the cove or the thin stainless at the top of the quarter?

If the former, is it the one-piece or the two-piece type?

Default trim

It's the wide trim that is in the cove. It's two pieces. The rear piece had access from inside the trunk, no problem. But the 2nd piece that starts approximately over the rear wheel doesn't appear to have a access point to take it off.

Get some plastic trim tools from the auto parts store and just pry them off, but get the nuts in the trunk first. Usually about 5 or 6 total nuts front and trunk.

Lilabner, thanks! I was wondering if I missed a trick on accessing the clips. It appears I wasn't, just need to carefully pry them off.

If it's a 2 door HT, you will have to remove the sail panel to access some of the mounting hardware.

I don't think so. My '62 body manual has the removal on page 6-12. I can't photocopy it so I'll just write it out.

Rear Fender Lower Front Molding and Rear Fender Lower Rear Molding.

47 and 67 Styles.

The moldings are secured to the rear fender by snap-in type clips and integral studs with attaching nuts.

To remove these moldings: Remove the rear quarter trim assembly, the quarter inner panel access hole cover and remove or loosen the rear compartment side trim. Remove the front attaching nuts through the access hole and the rear attaching nuts from the rear compartment. Then, with a flat bladed tool, unsnap the remainder of the molding from each snap-in clip. The front molding is overlapped by the rear.

To install the moldings: Replace damaged clips and seal as required. Attach washers over the studs, position moldings and snap into place. Install front and rear molding attaching nuts to effect a water-tight seal. Install previously removed parts.

FYI: Series 2347 and 2367 Catalina 2 dr ht and convertible
Series 2847 and 2867 Bonneville 2 dr ht and convertible
Series 2947 Grand Prix

I was referring to the moulding at the base of the roof. You are looking at the one down in the middle of the lower body panel, right?

Yes because that is the molding that Gary is asking about.

I went out and looked at mine and I have to say if that molding is in two pieces that's the best hidden joint I have ever seen. Mine looks to be all one piece. The body manual shows and describes it as in two pieces. Did GM make a change from two to one piece during that model year? Mine was built in March of '62.

From the (limited) research I have done, there are single-piece and two-piece cove trim for 2dr HT Bonnies.

It appears that, on the two-piece cars, one is interchangeable with all body styles, and the other is body style specific.

TS, if you don't mind, what VIN code is yours? Also, what is the body number (to the right of the letter)?

the one piece molding was the early design, gm was having a problem with them getting damaged during shipping both prior to assembly and as an spo part... thats when the change was made. my bonnie has the one pc ones, they are 8ft+...

I checked my PHS documents again and they say mine was built 7-24-62. Not in March as I had thought. That seems pretty late in the model year. Just one of those weird things I guess.

Engine-Ear: The vin is 862S11506. I keep forgetting to get the body code.
