Default 69 lemans 350 HO

Was going to wait till spring, but dont have a good place to store it. I've got a very nice low mileage 69 lemans with the original everything, almost. The alt. and water pump has been replaced. 40,000 original miles, i am the third owner and have decided to let it go to a new home so i can finish my other projects. This car drives and looks great, it really needs nothing but maybe some detailing under the hood. Its very clean and reliable, i've driven it all summer, put 2500 miles on it, no issues. I'm asking $11,500 if anyone is interested. It has had 1 repaint, and is very nice, in its original color code 50 white with the original parchment bucket seat floor shift interior in excellent condition and the original black vinyl top also in great condition. Only thing wrong is it has a minor dent in the back bumper that needs straightened and replated or replaced. Original code XU 350 HO turbo 400 and i think a 3:55 gear non posi. with the original carb. I will post pics late this upcoming weekend. My camera is full.

Do you have PHS on car? Do numbers match except for the alt. and water pump? Any pictures of engine compartment and chassis? Any rust, or damage to body you are aware of?

Thanks.

I have had a lot of hits on this car since last weekend, however i've been reluctant to post this. Last sunday i took the car for a drive since its been sitting for a couple months and with my luck the timing chain went out and took other things with it, (pushrods and valves) so i thought it would be a good time to pull the engine, check everything out and give it a good detail, it needed a good detail cause the last owner went happy a spray can. To Mark and everyone else, i will post pictures of the underside and engine compartment as soon as i'm done making sure everything is right, i dont want to sell a car with problems. I already pulled the engine down, and this motor has never had a bolt turned on it, and found everything to be in perfect condition except the obvious, i am however putting new bearings in it. The original 48 heads are at the machine shop getting all new stainless valves installed and i should have it back together in a week or so. As far as phs, i have not run it, but i can tell you its all numbers matching except starter, alt., and water pump, and will be put back together with all the parts i took off with NO reproduction parts, i'm going to clean the originals and reinstall them. There is no rust through on the undreneath, just some light scale. The body is very nice and the paint as well, i have had many compliments and thumbs up when i take it out. I'm not sure of the options list on phs but it has p.s. p.b. disc, buckets, console with factory ratchet shifter, turbo 400, and will peel the tire in second. There is a stereo installed in the glove box with the original am radio in the dash and was told by previous owner that the radio works fine if you plug the antenna in. Any other questions, you can call me at 330-352-0010.

Thanks for the update. I will wait for the pictures.

Was the original nylon timing gear the reason for the failure? If the engine has never had a bolt turned I bet you find some chunks of the nylon timing gear in the oil pan.

I have a friend who still has the 69 Custom S that he ordered with a 350 HO motor and a 4 speed.

Back in the early 90's I restored a 50,000 mile 69 GTO 400 4 speed that took first in the GTOAA concourse stock class. I am very familiar with the 69 model year. I made the mistake of replacing some of the original parts with reproductions just because the repops looked newer. They were not the same in shape and design. Use as much of the original stuff that is still functional and it will maintain the "integrity" of a low mileage original.

You are correct. There were about 5 teeth left on it. Just put new rod bearings in, mains looked good, so we left them alone. New rear seal and installed crank tonight. My engine builder cant come back till sunday, so we will finish the short block then and finish engine assembly monday evening provided i get the heads back by then, he special ordered the valves from timbuckto. Engine is planned to be set back in tues. or thurs. evening next week, not as fast as i would like, but you know how these things go. Will post more pics as we move along.

It's also getting a new pick up tube on the original oil pump, as it had 40 psi at idle and 75 psi driving down the road. Also put original cam back in, as it looked to be in great shape too. Rings and pistons are beautiful, still had crosshatching in cylinders with no ridge.

Notime - that is one nice looking Lemans in a great color combination. Kind of reminds me of an XX coded, two barrel GTO that I once owned, but I'm sure the Lemans is faster. Good luck with the sale.

Is that trunk mat original? I like it.

Trunk mat is original in nice shape, also has original trunk paint. I'm detailing the engine compartment now, and as usual, i'm getting carried away and doing more than i should cause i'm trying to sell it, not a concours job, but new owner will be proud to open the hood.

XX was the engine code for the two barrel 69 GTO. What carb is on your 350 HO?

The WW scribled on the firewall is probably not associated with a code or option. More than likely it was done by assembly line technicians for thier own reference.

The XU code 350 HO should have a 4 barrell Quadrajet number 7029268. It used the 067 cam (same as the 400 automatic with A/C in the GTO) and should have a letter P stamped on the end. The 350 HO also used the same cast iron intake of the GTO. The # 48 heads were also used on 4 - speed GTO's and RA III GTO's.

I know you are spending some time and money to get the car running again but do it right and it will be worth the effort.

The carb is a 7049268 and i believe ther is a p on the end of the cam. Christmas is going to put a dampener on finishing it but should have the motor in it tuesday and the next time i would normally work on it would be thursday evening, but thats not gonna happen.

Take your time and enjoy your Christmas. It is never a good idea to rush through a engine rebuild or repair. You don't want to find out something is not right after you install the engine.

Thanks for the pictures. I look forward to seeing the entire engine compartment and chassis. If possible also take some additional pictures of the car out in the sunlight. I think it will look a lot better with more light.
