Here is my situation. I have a 67 gto numbers matching car very original right down to the radio. The car is from new mexico and extremely solid, no bondo that I can tell. The car was originally gold but is now pearl white. I would say that the paint job is about an 8 out of 10. The color change was extremely thorough and a pretty good job. Is it worth taking the car back to the original color. Will it have a great impact on the value and how much could I expect to spend to return it to its original state. I garage the car but I try to drive it a few times a week, I can't help myself. I am afraid that if I go all out and change it that I will be afraid to drive it. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

I'm spending thousands to get mine from dark blue all the way down to the metal and back to Iris Mist. I am doing it for the added value, light blue is my preference, but originality pays....ck out my link below (Thanks again Kurt)

is the car for sale? is it going to be for sale? if it has a paint job that is that nice and you like the color i would not spend the $4500 to $5000 min to change the color. you will be with out the car for a min of 2 or 3 months. but if you have the money and would like to have the other color then do it. it doesnt matter what my car is worth cause it's not for sale and hopfully will never be so i do things i like to it. hope this helps.

I'm with Don, my 68 was born Cameo White and I completely repainted it Viper (Corvette) Red. Mine's not for sale, it's for enjoyment!!!!

If the paint is really an 8 out of 10, keep it and drive it without worrying about a new $5,000+ paint job. Enjoy the car for 5 years or so and then paint it later, that is if you plan on keeping it.

This is how I am going with my car, the paint is probably 6-7 out of 10, but I enjoy driving it and I don't worry about the few chips etc in it. I plan to change it from it's present aquamarine back to the original nocturn blue sometime in the future, but for now I will repaint the blotchy deck lid and enjoy as is. I don't want to have to worry about an expensive paint job as I drive to and hang at cruises and shows. That and I don't worry about boogering up the quarters with rubber on the few occaisions I take it to the track. Just my line of thinking. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

$4,500.00 plus is a realistic price to consider.
I agree with everyone about deciding what you want to do with the car.
My 69 bird was origional the light blue metallic.
I opted to paint it Dodge's Banzai Blue.
My reason?
It's my car, I didn't build it to sell.
I built the car for my pleasure.
Pearl White is a very pretty color.
If you like the color, and aren't selling the car.
Then you would be money ahead to wait until the paint fails before re-painting.
Of course a properly prepared paint job, using todays new urethanes can last in excess of 10 years.

Howdy, I would drive it until the paint job
deteriorates to the point that a repaint is
truly needed, then change it back to gold.

Even if you are going to go ahead with the repaint job, don't do it until you are ready to put it up for the winter. The 2-3 month time frame is pretty accurate along with the $4,500 to $5,550 price tag.

Why tie the car up for the summer when you could be driving it.

If the pearl white is not what you want and it is nagging at you go ahead and paint it back to the original color. Be happy with the car and drive it. Worry about the value if you ever decide to sell.
