Default Cam's LeGoat

Bought this 1969 LeMans sport for my son in 2014. He was a few weeks from being 15 and getting a driving permit. These photos are from the day we picked it up.

Car was a runner driver but barely. Anemic 350 with like 8:1 compression.

Purchased it July and started tearing down soon after.

On rotisserie and ready for blasting.

And all cleaned up sometime in September.

Bought this car for $3000 and was pretty happy at the time as it didn't have a lot of rust in the quarters and thought we would be able to save them. However after striping realized it had some pretty bad rust in the front window and rear window area as well as other places.
This replacement part is for a Chevelle and you have to modify to work.

Lucky for me my buddy Mike is the man!

Here is the patches we did on the quarters. We used some skins I got off someone for $20 each. They were put on his car by some hack so he took them back off and bought some full quarters I believe.

And the truck pans being replaced.

Man, Cam is going to have a sweet car!

This rear package tray/rear window panel. Needed to be replaced. I bought one for a Chevelle but they are so different. My friend Chris Hawkins was living in Georgia and found a nice clean Pontiac piece and shipped it to me. Saved a ton of hassle, time and money.

So today I welded and ground down the welds on the floor order the rear seat. Mike got it all set up for me.

Here is a shot of the wheels Cam is going to run. They came off a car I bought and parted, their brand new with zero miles! Also got a 10 bolt rear end, rebuilt, disc brake set up, posi with also zero miles! Man Cam is going to have a nice car!

Anyway Cam is a junior this year and I hope to have this car painted next summer and with any luck have the car done for when he graduates.
Should have been posting as we went but better late then never. Once again just a nice place to document this build.
Thanks for looking.

Great job GW! I'm sure your son can't wait till he can drive it. Will it go back original colors or custom? Will you use the Lemans nose or use an Endura? Look forward to following along on another one of your car build threads.
Thanks for posting!!

Charles, he wants to paint it Antique Gold like my Grandma's car, which is flattering but I told him we're not having two gold cars! The plan is to paint it back the Warwick Blue but put black interior in it.
It will be a GTO clone so yes to the endura bumper. Already sourced a pretty good one and most the other parts associated with the change over.

Looks good GW, have you got a few pics of the deck lid damage prior to fixing it? Just curious as to what it looked like before, what type of damage it had (rust/dents) and how you repaired it. I have a T/A deck lid that needs some attention and thought I might be able to see what you did on yours. You are very talented and do amazing work! I always learn new things from the posting of your projects. Also can't wait until you Finnish your Grandmothers Goat.....she's a Beauty!!

Charles,
Not sure I have any before pictures. It had the LeMans emblems on it if I recall correctly and at some point someone had added a rear spoiler so we had some holes to fill. This was not the deck lid off Cam's car. I soda blasted it followed by some crushed glass then put in SPI epoxy. We did not have to do any rust repair.
Mike decided to put the epoxy over the primer on this one rather then over the bear steel. He really likes the way the SPI epoxy sands.

Started working on the doors last Thursday while Mike did some bondo work. Little patch on one and welded up some small holes where someone had put a mirror on the passenger door, big pet peeve of mine! Used the nail gun to pull a bunch of dents. Had a good day.
