Default U-JOINT to connect a 1956 drive shaft to a 1955 rearend.

Hello, I am sorry, I have tried many searches on the forum, and I am unable to find any information on the u-joint required. I have seen a few people say that someone here on the forum has the part number or the name of a person that knows what i need. I am sure i just can't swap caps to make it work, but i cant find any direct information on the U-Joints of the 2 years to compare. Any leads or advice would be great. Thanks

The 55 u joint is considered a mechanics u joint and has the straps built into the caps, so maybe that complete u joint will fit into the 56 driveshaft?

Comparing the length across the "cross" of the '55 vs. '56 U joint you'll find 55=2.344" and the 56=2.557". Diameter of the bearing caps is 1" on the '55 and 1.125" on the '56.

It should fit.

Steve P, what should fit? Bill listed the differences in the U-joint, I am not seeing what your seeing. I do find some mechanics u-joints but neither have the dimensions given on a u-joint i can find.
Maybe i need to try and source a 56 pinion yoke if they would interchange on to the 55 rear end. Thanks to all for any information.

I thought that I swapped caps, but maybe I am mistaken. That 55 joint fits back a few years.
