Talking LilBird Lives!!!!

Well after a 10 year Hibernation, and correcting alot of mental mistakes, and problems that developed by sitting in the gaurage for 10 years!!!! The 301 CU OHC-6 with its new cam, wheel cylinders, starter, water pump, and rear axle seals. ( I was begining to thinl the car hated me!!!!!) It finally started up Sunday, Broke in the cam, adjusted the cam & ignition timing, and test drove it yesturday!!!!

The car has a 301 CI engine with a GMC forged crank, Clifford Headers, true duels with a X pipe, T-5 five speed manual trans, 4.10 posi 12 bolt axle. It looks like all of the V-belt alignment issues caused by using the SBC Fluid dampner are finally solved correctly, I had no issues with belts rolling over or coming off above 4000 rpm yesturday.

Still have to put an electric choke on the Q-jet, and hook up the hood tach. Once warmed up the engine idles great at 750 RPM, and revs well to 5300 RPM, but I think that is about all she has, the HEI seems to finally be set up correctly. Just in time for the dream Cruise!!!!

The seats and the steering wheel were all donated from the same 85 Firebird S/E

Jeff .I had to do a double take on the 1st pic with that red 4th gen droptop, then I remembered you have one too same color as mine. Great to see the 301 is alive.
I have nothing to add to this thread, all of mine are buried in storage.

Thanks Cammer6...

Boss, The Fitch sat on Marty Motors Lot in Ridgefield for sometime. I bought it from a lady in Newtown after her husband passed away. I believe they had it from about 1980 to 1988.

I think Rick and I discussed this before but I had called the guy about this before he passed and almost struck a deal.
Seems like it was in the Tampa Bay area at one time.

Rick,

Its great seeing your car has survived intact all these years, did you see that the builder of your car was recently released from the Hospital? I stumbled on a short artical about him. I had no Idea he drove for the Mercedes Factory team in the Pana America Races in the 50's!!!!! I will come back and post a link to the artical when I find it again.

I have to get some new tires on my Firebird, the 24 year old T/A Radials are worn out and Hard, I had fun this morning when I hit a patch of wet pavement from a lawn sprinkler!!!!!

Default Story on John Finth's 95th Birthday Party

I stumbled on this short artical last week when searching for something else, hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. Does not mention his work on the Finch Cars though.

camerjeff, thanks for posting the link. I heard John became ill last Nov. and was recovering. I knew he had a birthday sometime in early August. Thanks again.

Cammer6, If I remember correctly the Fitch Firebird advertised in FLA was one of the 400 cars. The family that owned it wintered in FLA and were in Long Island or Vermont in the summer. Could be wrong though... My car spent it's life in western CT.

Not sure if this post is appropriate for this thread or not but I'm starting another Pontiac project. I've got an all original '48 5 Window Delux Chevy P/U that I'm putting a Sprint motor and Muncie M22 in along with some 8 lug wheels. I'll post pictures as I progress. Wish it was an GMC because of the lineage connection. Colors will be Iris Mist (top and fenders) and one of the PMD silvers for the rest of it. I'll be calling on you guys for help with the motor.

Would definatly like to see some pic's of the P/U, what gear ratio are you running in the axle? The M-22 I had in my 67 Lemans didn't like gears less than 3.55's and then highway cruising got kinda hot with 4000 rpm, headers and both exhaust under my feet!!!!!

Sounds like a nice progect!

She rides again!

Cleaning up the old girl and putting back the parts I stole off her over the last few years. Even going to treat her to some Sprint style stripes I had made up.
