Hey, whats that stuff on the carpet, Dirt ? what no driving mats ? Also what are you hanging on those rear wheel flares to protect them from chips ?
Norwood, was suppose to be producing re-movable clear plastic for us and I wonder how that production is doing ? The wheel looks great and I hate to see those restored ones without the anodized and spray bombed. Enjoy, makes me think about driving my show car like right now. Brew |

I ended up using some cheapo black rubber mudflaps that are held in place with flat black painted clips with clear plastic tubing sections slid over each end so they dont mar the paint. They seem to be holding on very well and are barely visible next to the black tires. Much less noticeable than the vintage white "Trans Am" flaps I had been playing with. The rear flares themselves have the clear 3M material on them to prevent rock chips. (I detailed that a page or two ago in this thread)

Brew I'm working on it.
Steve we all need to meet up somewhere and take turns driving that Bad Boy. I know that you did all the work, but we all feel like we are part of this. Brew, we can take turns with your 4sp as well...I have never even been in an SD car let alone drive one. I hope that I could handle the POWER |

Craig:
You can drive mine anytime as long as you agree to my terms if something should happen!

Some photos of the urethane nose being worked on. Hopefully this will be home soon so I can finalize the fender adjustment, install the grills, and hook up all the lights.

Sorry to change course on this thread, as you where. |

Does anybody have any extras of these trim screws? They are the weird hex/philips screws that I believe are the correct ones used for attaching the flares. I need another 10 of them.
They were used on a ton of different GM applications. On the Firebirds they were also used to hold the rear window filler panel (the one between the window and the trunklid) in place. |

Steve, I would say that those screws are incorrect. This is what was my car in 1975 and is on my car today. Maybe Pontiac used different styles at different times, I'm sure the opinions will soon come out of the woodwork.

Steve, are you sure those are the screws your spoilers were mounted with? While I agree, those hex headed ones were used on GM cars in many places, I've never seen those used for the spoilers. The pics I'll attach of some original '70 & '73 spoiler screws, they look very much like the regular chrome wheel opening molding attaching screws. And chromed, not plated, with no hex portion.

That's why I love this forum. I figured they were rather small in diameter to be holding the plastic flares in place. I have a ton of those wheel well trim screws. (They are actually what I have holding the flares in place at the moment since I didnt have enough of the hex/philip ones to go around!)
Thanks, guys!!!! |

I think you should seriously consider reproducing and selling the correct sets of these screws. I have similar ones in the tool box but they are a more modern screw with a much more pronounced step and a smaller diameter head than the screws I am seeing in everyone's examples above. Anyone got some extras? I see what looks like a similar wax coated, large head, wheelwell screw from AMKproducts on page 90, item # B11178 8-18 x 1/2 .42 dia head, but AMK only sells with a $30 minimum order. http://www.amkproducts.com/Catalog_PDF/74-91.pdf Last edited by njsteve; 03-24-2010 at 09:18 PM. |
