Default Key Fob 2009 GT

I bought a 2009 GT at Mecum Chicago last month. It has only one key fob. It's the type that does not fold. I would like to replace it and add another that does fold.

What have you found to be the best source of aftermarket fobs for these cars? I checked with a Chev dealer and they are ridiculous on pricing. Obviously, I need to purchase, program, and grind the key to fit my car.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Had mine done by a lock shop, a little cheaper. Ace Hardware may do them also. Or hand me the key & vehicle and I'll see what I can work out

09 G8
One of the least expensive ones GM has.
Not sure why but serviced separately vs complete.

The "button" side is part #92237316
Retail $31.72
The "un cut" flip key half is #92281663
Retail $44.91
Pre cut by GM is #92281664
Retail $44.26 Go figure?...

Any GM dealer can order it pre cut. Some refuse unless its one of their customers.
Some are cheap, some are not.
Round here the charge for codes range from $30 to $50 plus $0 to $10 for cutting.
Chevy down the street charges $75.00 to get codes and $30.00 to cut it.
Hear its $100-$150 in Chicago area...

Forgot programing remote runs $75-$125 round here.
Unless you know someone. Then its $5-$10

To order pre-cut, I'm assuming you would supply the VIN. Programming the "button side", I assume, would be done on the car. There are many tips online to do that.

So, I order pre-cut and the button? Is that the complete fob?

I checked our local dealer yesterday. Parts guy said "two weeks and $120 or more for the fob."

Supplied the VIN to my local dealer and the key came cut and programmed. iirc it was just under $100.00.

It was the straight key and not a flip; no Pontiac arrow on the body. The key was also out 90° as compared to the fob body of the original.

Fun car to drive!

Ace & other local stores say they can only make Vibe, G5, G6 keys. Who can cut the key shank if I order one from our host?
