Default Camaro to stop production early next year

https://apnews.com/article/camaro-mu...a0edf72a87ed65

Perhaps it will come back as a smaller AWD electric sport hatch? Something a little more useful?

end of an era for sure...not my era but just the same. Maybe that is why Transamwordwide made that hideous chevelle interpretation :|

I feel bad for the future generations that wont know what a cool car was or the whole muscle car scene. Im almost 60 and I still consider I missed the scene by 10 years.

No doubt, electric standard, or an option.

Well, they nursed the Camaro along for several years and just couldn't justify keeping it with 20K units a year sales. Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger were killing GM in that market. Why that is can be argued forever, but ultimately sales are the final word. Mustang has plans to offer a gasoline powered version far into the future. For better or worse, they are the last "pony" car standing.

Sad quotes from the article:

"GM has said it plans to sell only electric passenger vehicles worldwide by 2035."

"GM’s move comes as traditional gas-powered muscle cars are starting to be phased out due to strict government fuel economy regulations, concerns about climate change and an accelerating shift toward electric vehicles."

Because it's ass ugly. When you had the Challenger outselling the Camaro with a 15 year old platform, and the Mustang that was also riding on an aging platform for some time, you have yourself a problem.

While GM was routinely touting track lap times, handling characteristics, and technology implementation, Mopar and Ford were building cars for the regular guy. 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, and comfortable interiors. The same stuff that sold muscle cars back in the day, still sells them today.

99% of Joe Blows aren't going to track days, but they definitely can have some fun stoplight to stoplight, going to street night at the dragstrip, and having themselves a highway warrior.

Who ever is in charge of styling at GM should be shot to Mars. They single handedly made the entire lineup of every GM brand disgusting looking with the possible exception being GMC.

The 5th Gen Camaro was pretty cool when it came out. The 6th gen brought some nice improvements, but styling was a little strange. The nail in the coffin was the "refresh" on the 6th gen that was an absolute abomination.

It's too bad. I've always liked Camaros. I've owned plenty of them. But I'll never own a 6th gen.

I'm shopping for a HC Challenger though.

Harley Earl must be turning in his grave.
But the Camaro isn't alone in ugly styling.

Thought for sure Lexus / Toyota would have gotten rid of the 'Snow Plow' grill by now. Beautiful cars until you look at the front.

Like my 25 year old daughter says, "Life's to short to drive ugly cars'.
She has a 2015 Mustang BTW and will inherit my GTO.

Those GM statements are pure BS. I'd have to go to the clubhouse to say anymore.

I've sat in a couple of the new version Camaros. Didn't like them at all. I'm 6 foot tall and had a hard time seeing over the dash. The doors were so high it felt like sitting on the floor looking out the door windows It wasn't comfortable at all and didn't seem right. The last "real" Camaros and Firebirds were more comfortable, and visibility was a lot better too.

I have an '11 RS/SS convertible. I almost pulled the trigger on a ZL1. Wish I would have! I'm trying to decide whether to sell and buy ZL1 or hop this one up.

My 1978 TA was similar (not a T-Roof Car).
Other cars with the "Command Pilot" (More Vertical Seating) was more comfortable on long trips for some. Hated the new Camero
"Racing " seats with the high bolsters and no hip room for a average posterior.

I have seen a lot of twisted body cars with the T-Roofs not installed on PYLON
parking lot race courses.

Yet the Dodge is the first one to go by the wayside and the Mustang was the first one to have an EV version....

I guess I'm a 1%er, as I could care less about a slightly better 0 - 60 time if the car will actually be fun to drive on a windy twisty road. Neither the Challenger or the Mustang are really a 'highway warrior', but the Challenger does have a much bigger trunk that Mopar fans are really quick to point out (priorities...)

I'm a big fan of the heads up display, which eliminates the Mustang and Challenger. Ford does offer HUD on the Escape - Mopar has it on a Ram PU.

Styling is subjective - the Challenger looks like a bloated whale to me (and is soooo heavy it won't handle) and the Mustang is just ok.

Funny you say that every brand of GM product is disgusting looking with the exception of GMC. GMC doesn't make a single car and every truck or car they sell is a clone of the comparable Cadillac, Buick or Chevy they sell.

The Cadillac CT4/CT5 is better looking than either the Challenger or the Mustang, IMHO, and are available in 472 HP (CT4) and 668 HP (CT5) versions that can do the 1/4 mile in 11 (CT5) to 12 (CT4) seconds for those so inclined while running circles around a Mustang or Challenger in the windy twisties.

Your results may vary...
