Default 4” Duct Option

Here’s a cheap way to go on a 4” duct, nOS getting very pricy, HVAC ducting painted black.

Get black SEM from Walmart, spray on the driveway, a real one is anywhere from 500-1200$
$800 for an Aircleaner , wow.
You also need to shorten the repooops, they are way too long.

walmart dont sell SEM, auto paint supply stores sell it & pros use it, so give up on that lame attempt to insult everyone that uses it.

did you use some special HVAC paint you bought in the 90's for that professional paint job on your 2 dollar dryer duct?

like i said, just buy the repro duct that looks correct, not a big deal if it needs cut a little. much rather do that than use some janky dryer duct.

Looks like crap. Half the repros are too short, rather than too long, creates new issues. The NOS I have was 16", the repro stocked by several, was 13".

12 ribs look good. Most look like an accordion. Most have so many ribs that’s all you see. I have one paper type left, I have a 2nd design GM on my car now. Saving the one in a box for some day.
That one I posted was removed from a car and tossed.
But, it works for the frugal here.

Semi-gloss Plasti-Dip? Flexible. Could make many spares.

As can be seen by this ad, the item being sold is not the item shown installed. One is way too short, the other way too long. The size of the spiral also affects the length, not just the amount of ribs but the space between each, but often similar enough to compare in general pics. If handy with trimming and small rivets you could trim to length, I certainly haven't needed to but it's an option. That's if you can find the long version, can't trim the short one to be longer!

ok guy... you keep trying to claim i am wrong on stuff like this then i show or explain proof & you go silent. heres another example, what you showed there is walmarts online ordering they've been doing lately that works exactly like amazon... they are not selling or stocking the products, they are a 3rd party that connects people searching on the web for a product to the actual seller... just like amazon. order some of that SEM from your screenshot and it will ship from a auto paint store or other auto type company ... NOT walmart. go in to any walmart store & try to buy it. & even if they did happen to carry it its just like any other product stores carry, they are retailers of it... is mobil1 oil bad because walmart sells it? give up uncle leo, youre batting a big fat zero with this stuff.

one more time, SEM is sold by auto paint stores & is an excellent product used by pros, it can be mixed up for a spray gun just like any other brand of paint like dupont or PPG etc, and they ALL can be put into spray cans for the average consumer, SEM just offers it in spray cans since its so popular for the hobbyist.

Ah, no, pros spay in paint booths with paint from a auto body shop.
A lot use SEM your rite, there’s one for ya, go to the Dayton show, you can tell who uses it, the whole interior matches, they shouldn’t. If yiu chose to use that, go ahead.
I bought SEM black trim, not for my car, some cabinet handles, it’s all chipping off. Garbage. I’ll stick to paint from an auto body shop for my car.

Anyway, let’s stick to the topic, I posted a cheap way to get a 4” duct on your driver, not for pebble beach cars. I’ve seen silver dryer hose, the one I posted looks way better. Here’s a repop I have for sale, they do look diff, most aren’t going to spen 1200$ on a nOS pc. The repops look totally diff. Here’s one below.

ah, yes, if its mixed in a can for a "pro" (pint, qt, gallon) its from an auto body paint supply store, then used in a gun that pros spray it in a booth. doesnt make it back alley craigslist resto as you claimed trying to insult people that use it or the OP of the thread that was asking about it...

yes some may do the full interior that doesnt 100% look correct, but most these cars aside from pristine originals or concourse restos are resto mods or budget builds so guys do what they can to paint the interior. or they color match it as needed, then its mixed up for them.

no matter how hard you try or cry about it, SEM is a professional product, they offer a lot more than just the color coat for interiors. but you clearly are oblivious to that & think its sold at walmart, like that matters. proved you wrong on that 2 or 3 times now.

thats funny, Ive used SEM on parts 15+ years ago that still look great today with no signs of peeling or chipping. prep & proper application is key to any paint. if yours is chipping off, the prep & application was lacking.

take a survey of those that use SEM or just read all the positive reviews on here... its clear SEM is not garbage. give up.

& the repro tubes look 1000% better than a spray painted dryer duct! SEM is back alley resto stuff, but $2 dryer duct is perfectly acceptable... LOL!

I think SEM Trim Black is the best thing invented to keep driver-quality cars looking nice. I did the stainless windshield trim on my '77 T/A, I've done wiper arms on numerous cars, and I've done the headlight bezels on my '79 TATA. I'd have no hesitation using it on a project like that. It's not the "perfect" finish a true resto would demand, but nobody installing dryer vent hose is probably looking for those results.

That’s HVAC hose not dryer hose. So everyone will pay $1200 for a nOS one, rite.

I used this stuff. Insulated, double-wall. Color blends end with the rest of the engine nicely. $14. It will never be confused for OEM, but it is functional and does not stand out.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Didn't need much for my '73, so have a LOT left over for future projects.

For the sake of it, here's the last GM version #489909 at 16" vs the repro now out there at 13" long. It would be interesting to see how the short one fits on a car. My aircleaner and other ducting is packed away elsewhere.

A friend took the longer version and cut it down for my 78. It’s way better.

That’s what I’m saying there Lee, people with a driver won’t spend the money, that’s a nice substitute .
