Default Lost my windshield today

Took my 66 2+2 Convertible out for a run today. Cruising down the road got hit with something, don't know what, but is shattered the glass the inside. The Mylar is in tact but the glass is gone on both sides.

Questions:
Is the windshield that our sponsor sells a good quality and are they date coded correct?
How many reveal clips are needed?
Do I need to buy the butyl and weld primer or will a windshield shop have these supplies?

Before you buy your own glass ask the shop if they will install it. Most shops want to supply their own product. Even if they will install it they might not guarantee the installation.

Safelite I don't know if you have them in your area but if you do DON'T USE THEM! They were 2-3 times more expensive than the local glass company.

Well it looks like I will be using Safelite. They are Grundy's windshield replacement go to. Filed my claim and they had Safelite call me. They are coming to my house to change it out 1st of November.

Check your state regulations - you may have the right to choose the repair center of your choice. In Minnesota the insurance companies cannot force a person to use their preferred repair shop, I don't know if other states are the same or not.

Safelight is fine as long as its insured anyway. Your lucky to get rid of that old laminated windshield anyway. A lot of people got there throat cut from them.

Not meaning to hijack but I'm curious and admittedly out if touch with modern manufacturing methods but is there a different type of windshield available today that is beyond and safer than the original laminated style?

I thought all front windshields were laminated with only the side and rear being tempered glass. Even those on older cars being laminated. When did they change the windshield?

They didn't, a quick web search indicated that laminated windshields are mandatory.

It is laminated. Whatever it was that hit me left a hole and powdered the glass on the inside the size of a golf ball. The mylar stayed intact or it would have rattled around the inside with me.

I got a couple good knicks on the hood too. Went clear to metal.

Wow, that was a big hit. I've had chips and cracks but nothing ever like that.

Got the glass pulled out today. Glass company won't set new glass because of rust issue along the bottom. Need to find a shop in Kansas City to make repair. Anyone have suggestions for a shop. I'll post a few photos. Also need to get new clips. Several were broken.

Default 66 windshield

Did my 65 myself. You need a mig welder, sheet metal brake and a shrunken/stretcher. This was a crappy design from the factory. Mig weld your channel top and bottom. Dig out the old sealer under where you need to repair.

I had to have my GTO windshield replaced about 5 years ago... before covid hit us. I too had a rust issue in the channel it sits in. They had to use the "new" stuff to set it as the ribbon was no longer legal to use. They filled in where the rust was, and said I'd have no problems with leaks ever again, and then set the windshield. They were right... no more leaks.

My problem is that Safelite will not install until it is repaired. Liability issue. Plus it is being paid for by my Grundy Insurance.
