Butler 461 rotating assembly arrived today. Ross flat top Pistons, Eagle 6.8 rods, Eagle 4.25 crank.
Also got a great deal from PY Member carsmymistress on a Quick Fuel Q850 Carb. Now I need to figure out what heads, cam and converter. Still not sure on Kre 85cc or Eheads 87cc but still thinking of Stump Puller Cam. If I go out of the box, unported heads which one do you guys suggest?

Benefits? For the street?

my builder likes using [for me any way,and I am sure there will be a boat load of different answers] for me street/strip.......a Canton stock baffled pan, crank scraper and windage tray.
All for HP gain at a given rpm plus keep the oil near the pump pick up and off the crank.

Parts arrived. My wife said I looked like a kid at Christmas.

Does anyone know what Windage tray/screen works with a stock replacement pan and 4.25 crank. Some descriptions say "works with aftermarket pans that are deeper in the front than OE"

Default Got a few more questions

Got the engine assembled, painted and parts mocked up and waiting for warmer weather to take it to the dyno. Pulled the 326 out and got frustrated and cut most of the heater and radiator hoses off instead of wrestling them off and reusing them.

1. Does anyone sell a complete heater hose, vacuum and radiator hose set for 66 Lemans with AC and power brakes or do I just need to look up part numbers and order individually?

2. Is there a reason I would keep my stock, great condition starter and not buy the RobbMc starter? Stock works good now on the built 326 with headers but not sure on the new engine.

3. What power will it make? Should be at the engine dyno in less than a month.

461c.i. 4.155ross pistons 4.25eagle crank 6.8eagle rods
Zero decked 10.3:1 compression on 91 Octane
KRE unported 85cc d ports
Hyd Roller Cam similar to Stump Puller 230/236 on 112
Prw 1.65 roller rockers Lunati lifters
RPM Intake gasket matched
Quickfuel q850 carb
RobbMc 550hp fuel pump
Accel distributor with super coil
Accel wires with ngk FR5 plugs
Professional products sfi dampener
Hedman 1 3/4" into 3" longtube headers

Thanks!

Call your fav parts store on the hoses, the only way I know...get 6' of 5/8 and 3/4 heatrer hose, each, it will be too much, but makes life easier.

Is that a vacuum secondary carb???

Stock starter will be fine. Although the higher compression will be a good test for it!!!

Where did you get the Pontiac engine cradle???

Should be close to 500 HP, 600 LB/Ft

What ICL did you install cam at???

Looks like one of these: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=766919

I have 2 of them, they're top-quality.

Yeah that's the plan for the hoses, I thought I wanted something fancier but I am going to go with the stock looking black rubber hoses.

No it's a mechanical secondary.

The engine cradle is from a member here - coupeute - it's the one b-man posted a link to. It's great!

I would be all smiles if it makes 500/600

And... I don't have the specs with me now on the cam and I had John at Folks machine install and degree it for me.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Happy New Year to all!

Chad:
Following this post. I am about to pull the trigger on the same rotating assembly. I've looked around and most of the assemblies are roughly the same price, but Butlers comes balanced included!! The Eagle crank is it cast steel or nodular?
What was the verdict on HP and TQ? I am starting with a 71 400 I am looking to get as close to 500 as well.

Thanks,
Dave

I was at a local car show Saturday when someone told me the Pontiac stroker cranks are no longer being made. I don't believe this. Has anyone heard the same?

Been hearing that for 2-3 years now....Butler, RPM, Galaxy, Ohio Crank, Kauffman, Scat, All Pontiac, and others all have them to sell.

Dittos. Sounds like gibberish to me.

Dick,

They may have stopped making a few specific cranks but there are many still on the market. For instance, in 2011 I bought a 4" stroke, 3.00" main, Pontiac Rod Journal 2.25" cast crank from PPR (Tomahawk) made by RPM. They no longer make this crank. The cast crank they offer now has the BBC 2.20" rod journals. You can get a forged 4340 crank with Pontiac Journals. But as far as them just completely stopping the manufacture of Pontiac Stroker Cranks, that sounds implausible to me.

I remember a couple of years ago Ken Ace Brewer saying they would no longer be available- like doomsday scenario. IIRC he said even the 3.00/4.25 cranks. So much for that...
