So I found a nice 1108436 for the Black Car that I am rebuilding and refurbishing. I Need a little help though determining whether the case was painted after the screws and end plate were installed which means they were painted black, or should they have a silver zinc/cad finish? I think they were black painted, but want to get it right.
Also, this starter is a little early for my January, 1972 car with a September 1970 date code. If anyone has a later date code 8436 and wants to trade I would be happy to have a discussion. Thanks for any help. |

Bob, "J" is the tenth letter in the alphabet, so unless they didn't use "I" then I would think your starter is a dated October of 1970. After what NJSteve posted on his SD starter, are you sure yours isn't correct? Maybe they were batch built and they were still using them up on the 72 models.
FYI, my 17,000 mile 71 trans am still has the original 1108436 starter in it, and it's dated 0J11. Quote:

Bob, Here's some photos of the untouched "1B11" starters we found in 73 Super Duties. Given the crazy anomoly of those starters on a 1973, who knows what should be correct with the black car.
While Frank G's original starter is all black, and one of the other examples has remnants of black paint, the first photo of a 10K mile car, and mine have no paint on them whatsoever. Last edited by njsteve; 02-03-2017 at 09:24 PM. |
