Went up to visit her a few times on my ZX-6 in the late nineties. Sad to see. USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), departed Bremerton for a 16,000-mile journey around South America for its ultimate fate: scrapping at a Texas shipyard. (EP.2) 8:22 PM · Jan 16, 2022

I depends,it took over a year to cut up Coral Sea.
Many factors are involved. They shut it down for months because of falling scrap metal prices. It's a very hard labor intensive job that few want to do nowadays. It also is a hard way to get much money out of it,much less than you think. That's really the reason they sell them for nothing.

BTW the new JFK, CVN 79 and Enterprise, CVN 80, are currently in construction. The portholes from WWII USS Enterprise (CV 6) and recycled steel from USS Enterprise (CVN 65) will be incorporated into the new Enterprise.

Dec 25, 1971 - Santa Claus launches an F-4 Phantom on Christmas day aboard USS Coral Sea CVA-43.
Yankee station. Yankee Station was a fixed coordinate off the coast of Vietnam where U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and support ships operated in open waters over a nine-year period during the Vietnam War.
