66 bonneville fuel tank questions
Attached are pics of tank that came with my car, Uninstalled. Anyone have a fuel system diagram? The strainer has only ground, power/signal for gauge and outlet line. Tank has 3 openings. My assumption is the outside 2 are for venting purposes? And the center is supposed to be return? Although the pump on the motor only has 2 lines, which should be supply from tank and then supply to carburetor. For the record motor is a 67 400 from a firebird, wz coded. If the 3 openings are for vent what is proper line routing or can I plug them and run a vented gas cap? Thanks in advance.

The line off your fuel sender is the connection for the fuel pump. Sorry I don't know what the other lines went to but if you don't need any of them cap them and use a "vented" gas cap.

Return on my '64 goes in thru the sender. Center port would be the vent, but it doesn't need 3 vents. I don't think that's a factory '66 tank with those indented corners / extra ports.

I have owned many of these cars over the last 45+ years and I have never seen that setup with the extra nipples

Well as me and a buddy always say, if it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any at all. It'd be nice to know what it came out of so i could sell it lol. I hate to but I may strap it up and run it until this spring or next. My plan is to go with an efi kit then. Anyone have experience with any models? I'm assuming it's easier to go with a tank kit with pump instead of making one fit an original tank or going inline?
Thanks |
