The optional chrome around the license plate. Kind of bumper guards.

Since this thread was active 3 years ago I've added 5 cars (all 69's) to the fleet, I'll check them all tonight.

Thinking again about it it must be related to European plates being that the holes are only on one side of the nose. Maybe only plants doing export jobs stamped those holes?

Just looked at every 69 here.

1... none of those holes on either of 2 Fremont GTO’s or a Arlington GTO.

2... none on either of two Norwood Firebirds

3...both LeMans’ have the holes (on the LeMans they are low enough that you have to stick your head under to see them), one car is a Baltimore build and the other is a Fremont

4...all my big cars have the holes (two Oshawa built Canadian style cars (Chevy chassis), two bonnevilles and a Ventura wagon from Southgate, a catalina from Arlington, an executive from Kansas City

5... both my GP’s have a single square hole

All the LeMans’ and big cars have the two holes 13.5” apart and they are all centered with the license brackets on the passenger side of the valence.

The GP square hole is exactly straight below (parallel) the inner license plate bolt hole on the license bracket.

The only cars that have none are the GTO’s and Fbirds, which are the only 69 Pontiacs that have a center Mount license plate
