Default Getting Close

Cranked her up and drove her out of the shop the other day for the first time in seven years. Still needs final body adjustments, top installation and interior installation, along with a few other minor things. But it's a car again! I always thought I'd like the power antenna, but once it was installed I found that I don't like it........I LOVE it!

The Rally II's are just temporary, but they actually look pretty good on her. Ultimately I am going to go with redlines and DeLuxe hubcaps with spinners. The deck lid isn't closed in the pics as the latch hasn't been reinstalled yet. That happened right after the pics were taken.

Excellent, Bill! I know how great you felt the first time driving it out of the shop--the feeling isn't bad from that first time on, either!!

When I used to get my car out of hibernation from the winter and take it for its first decent drive of the season, I swear I used to get goose bumps. Cant imagine what its like after a long restoration. Love the car!

It was definitely a goosebump moment, for sure! I cranked it up, checked that I had brakes and eased it into first gear. I really didn't know what to expect when I let the clutch out.....I had nightmares of something going POP and the car lurching forward with me finding that I really didn't have brakes after all, lol! But there was no clutch chatter, no hop, just a smooth engagement and wow!

Those Rally II's really are growing on me! It's a shame Pontiac didn't make those in 64, cause if they did I believe I'd be leaving them on the car. But I've done my best to make this car as 1964 as possible, so I'll have to take them off and use them on my next project-in-waiting...a total basket case 67 242 GTO convertible.

Congrats on being so close to road worthy.
Warm 80 degree day.....cruising with the top down.....banging through the gears....man, with all of the snow on the ground up here....that sounds like dream for sure!

Congtrats Bill, looks great.

Your car (as well as many other projects on this site) gives me motivation to carry on with mine. Thanks,

Haha, Ron, the top is a discussion topic on another thread. The interior is dark blue. The original was in pretty decent shape, I thought, until I saw it next to the new Legendary stuff I bought to replace it. Their door panels and seat covers are really nice. I sent off for material samples for the top and been trying to decide between what Kee Auto Tops calls "original GM white" or the newer "Britewhite." The original sample looked mor ivory while the other truly is bright white. Tough decision and not one you want to make a mistake on.
