Hello,
New to the group and looking for help completely understanding the recently received PHS manifest. I was just gifted this GTO from my Father-in-Law at Christmas. He purchased the car used in 1965 with 7k for miles, now showing 49k. I removed from the barn where he parked in 1971. I have not received the window sticker that may provide more information mainly on the Muncie and rear gear ratio Thanks Randy Last edited by Randy S; 02-01-2023 at 06:31 PM. |

I think the rear gear might be 3.90? 39:10 on bottom page.

Wow - that is quite a gift. Neat car. Definitely 3.90 rear gear - which I think required limited slip and metallic brake linings (both are shown on the manifest). John V. has written on the forum about the transmission (M20 vs. M21) and a quick search should provide you with the detailed discussion of that can-of-worms.
Otherwise...Marimba Red with black interior, tri power, 4-speed, lamp group (underhood, glove box, luggage lamp, etc>), basic group (I think - push button radio, two-speed wipers with washer, etc.), quick ratio steering, HD shocks, dash pad, and seat belt retractors. White stripe tires with poverty hubcaps (I think). It's been awhile since I read one of these from the manifest. How about some pictures of the car? We all would love to see it. |

Eric White's book shows 71P (that is, box 71 letter P) is a 3.55 rear axle. Looks like perhaps the order got changed, and in a timely fashion so that the build sheet could be updated. (For changes later than that the build sheet/invoice is marked in handwritten notes, with the pricing adjustments shown). Other axle codes: Box 70 code 3 = Saf T Trac Box 69 code 2 = Metallic brakes. I took the typed memo in the memo/blank section was for the gears.
Possibly put in trunk for dealer to install? (maybe they wanted the M21 and the 3.90 but couldn't get it? ) ![]()

I will check to see what gear is in the rear which is out of the car, also look for a stamping on the passenger side of the housing. My Father-in -law said the pinion nut came loose and hurt the ring and pinion. He purchased a rear from the Tin Indian, that the rear currently in the car. |

Car is in many ways built the same way but mine was a KC Build, Convertible, and Grenadier Red Color. White Top. Body is like Wangers 64 GTO. Was it built with a Mechanical Linkage or the Vacuum Linkage. March build date might have had the other linkage installed as the parts might have been available. My April Car had the mechanical carb linkage. But it was a ZONE CAR.

Looks like we found a mistake in Eric's book. I'll make a note of it.
Sorry if I caused any confusion. K
