So far we are out our 2019 federal refund, the first stimulus check of $1,200 each and the second stimulus check of $600 each That's about $5,000 so far. If the third round comes out soon we won't get that either unless our case is resolved. And, it's time to file our 2020 return!
I am so thankful that we didn't need the money to live.

I think they are trying to get us again. I created an account last year and thought it covered my wife as well but it didn't. So we went online a couple weeks back and created one for her. Part of creating that account included her username and password along with a site picture and site word. Also, the IRS said they would send her a letter with an activation code. We got the letter today but when we tried to log in the site picture and site word were not the ones she selected. So she could not log in to get her IPN. I guess I will be on the phone tomorrow for a couple hours trying to get this straightened out.

I actually spoke to an IRS agent today!!!! I started calling at 8am and finally got an agent at 1:15pm. She confirmed that someone has tried to log in to my wife's account, without success. She said I should get my taxes filed as soon as possible. I have an appointment for Mar 1st. but I am going to call my tax lady in the morning to see if she can work me in sooner. We file a short form so it won't take 15 minutes.
If anyone here needs any advice on the subject just let me know, I am getting pretty knowledgeable on the subject. The only problem with that though, is my old mind can't hold it all anymore!

Default irs theft

Happened to me several years ago in LA. Get a life-lock account and set up some hidden cameras. See if you can get Life-lock to do some special monitoring of your accounts. Good luck.

I saw my tax preparer today. She filled out our returns and said she would call tomorrow to let me know if they went through electronically. I forgot one other interesting item that may or may not have any bearing on my case. Around the end of January I received my W-2s in the mail. I saw my address on them and opened all of them. But, I didn't notice the names on them until I had opened them. One was addressed to someone who has never lived at my address. After not taking a picture of the name and address of both the recipient and sender I called the sender, a local business, and explained that I had inadvertently opened theW-2 that didn't belong to me. The personnel lady I talked to asked that I bring the w-2 to her and I did. She said she would find out why my address was used.
Today she called me to say that, after talking to the employee, she was more confused than ever. The employee couldn't give her an explanation but finally gave her a PO Box address.
I took the information to the local Sheriffs office and an investigator said he would go over my original identity theft report and investigate this new lead. It may be nothing but at least I will know when he gets back with me. I do not know the person that did this.

My tax lady said my state and federal returns were accepted when she filed them electronically so, hopefully I will get my first and second stimulus check along with my 2020 federal refund. I have not heard from the sheriffs department yet.

PM sent, going through something very similar right now. What a freaking mess! won’t go into detail here, but we have a couple of ideas who’s at the bottom of this, and I hope we’re wrong.

The wife and I are going to put this return and last years, if we ever get it, towards our burials. I am a Vietnam veteran and qualify for a veterans burial. I have selected Andersonville cemetery because I have an ancestor who died in the prison camp there during the civil war.
My wife has no immediate family nor do I and Andersonville is only 45 miles from where we live. If there is anything left after paying for that I might take my wife out for dinner! Or I might buy into tennis ball stock!

The good news - tennis balls are in fashion !

..............................

The bad news - taxes and death are inevitable.

......................

The best news - eventually they will get everything squared away so you can look toward the future and many more refunds, less the criminal drama of course. Your place of rest is well deserved although you'll certainly be wanting to file that return late. Take your wife out, have a nice dinner and enjoy yourselves. Many thanks for the service.
There is a strong military presence in my family as well, my father retired after 20 years, gone at age 56, also a Vietnam vet. I'll be laid to rest in good company along side him, my mother and my sister. Due to osteogenesis imperfecta, (weak bones), my sister never walked, my tennis ball stock goes to the children of Shriners & St. Jude.
