The one day I chose to take the Lemans to work before a week's vacation I hit a deer at 75MPH.

It sucked and took the wind out of my sails as that was a car I'd had for 14 years at the time and driven everywhere with zero issues. Bent the frame and every panel up to the cowl. I still haven't recovered.

That said, it's just a car. You put a ton into it, but your son at least is still alive and I guarantee he feels just as bad if not worse than you do about it. I know how bad I felt over it being my car, I can imagine how bad he feels over someone else's.

Give it time, don't make any rash decisions.

Just be grateful your son is okay. Cars can be rebuilt, including that one. If I were in your shoes, I would put a Schwartz Performance chassis under it. It will handle like a new car and front end sheetmetal should not be a big challenge.

Like the others have said, count your blessings that your son is OK. I have 16 and 18 year old kids, and although they'e both responsible and good drivers, I always feel anxious when they're out and about. I know I'd be much more worried for their safety in one of the older cars. Anyways, accidents do happen. I know it stings, and I apologize in advance for the cliche, but try to look at it as part of the lifelong journey. Assess the situation rationally, set a goal, and then move forward in a productive way. I don't know what your situation is, but think it would be really cool to bring it back to life (in form or another) with your son on board.

I know how you feel. After many years waiting to finish my '69 GTO convertible my wife took it out with friends and the master cylinder failed. The brake pedal went to the floor and she re ended a Hyundai. The Hyundai was barely damaged but the front bumper of the GTO was a mess.

While in no way on the same scale, I know the gut punch feeling.
So sorry for your loss.

Good that your son is OK.
Car looks fixable.
Here is a shot of my 62 GP in September of 2014, after the incident, followed by one in March of 2015 after the shop worked their magic.

That’s fixable. I know a guy out here with a great ‘69 GTO that has been “totaled” 3 times! (it looks great today.)

I fixed mine after my wreck, and opinions on here were about 80% “scrap it!”

Hopefully you got it towed to your house, otherwise it’s costing you money at a tow yard, and your decision will soon be made for you.

As has been said - focus on what’s important: your son is ok. When I was in high school, some cheerleader ran a light and hit my car. I went to a nearby house and called the cops, then I called my dad at work. I said “Hi, dad - I got in a car accident,” and he immediately started screaming about what a piece of **** I was. I hung up on him, and it dawned on me that he had no idea if I was hurt or not. I’m gonna remember that when it’s tIme to pick a home for him - haha. Don’t be one of those dads.

Most unfortunate in all respects. However don't let the fog of sadness prevent you from making a good decision. I don't know how insurance works in your province, but I would buy that wreck back and use it for parts on another car, or strip for parts. Despite the extensive damage accident, there is still a lot of good pieces on there.

Still haven’t heard from the insurance company. I know they have issues like every company, because of the dreaded “C” word. Hopefully that will work in my favor. I’ve been scouring the car ads for my whole province, kind of like using Searchtempest. Trying to get back on that horse. But man, there’s nothing out there. One guy has a ‘67 Tempest looks nice but it’s ivory on gold.interior. Another guy has a 67 Chevelle (That’s how bummed I am, I looked at a Chevelle) that could and should be a decent car, save for aftermarket crap like the shifter. And the lighter and radio are missing. Other than that, 85,000.00 Judges and 90,000.00 ‘69 Camaros.

Oh, yeah. I’ve had my eye on that ‘66 since he started advertising it. Sweet car looks like it could even be better in the hands of a real car guy. I’m on Searchtempest at least once a week and see virtually every Pontiac A body for sale across the States.
What kills me is the shipping and exchange. Actually it’s not the exchange, it’s the audacity of the banks big and small to tack on all kinds of lousy rates and services charges.
There’s always lots of nice cars and good deals in the US. Count your lucky stars.

Yep, been on there as well. They seem to be a bunch of good guys. Slim pickin's in the classifieds, though. Interesting how many repro parts are made for the Beaumont.

Just an option. Down in Texas there’s a place called Gary’s-classics.net. I believe they list 64-66 Pontiac frames for $1850. Plus they’re media blasted and I think it said powder coated. That’s actually a pretty good price.

I'm in another country, and I can see the frame damage from here. That thing is killed in the left rail and it ought be damaged behind the control arms. I'd like to see how far back the wheel is.
I own a frame machine and I would be shopping for a frame to put that body on.
