When I lived in Memphis in 2001, there was a snow, 6 inches total, over 2-3 days, that lasted close to a week. Coming from Erie Pa. where I was born, and lived for close to 50 years, it was nothing to me. After 3 days most everything had melted, but people wouldn't set foot out of their homes, nor drive, even though the streets were 99.99% bare.

It was unbelievable how everything shut down, as long as there was a patch of snow that someone could see from their window, no one would move, wouldn't go to work, etc...........

We were lucky again, the freezing rain line was somewhere north and west of where I live (southwest of Raleigh). It is cold and we had some heavy rain last night, but if we had ice it was gone by 8AM.

It is cold and my ground is mush.

Currently 28°, with light snow. No sun. No thawing of anything. Going back into the teens tonight. Our water was off for about 12 hours. Back on, for now. Thankfully, we haven't lost power yet.

TJ & Pooch went to check things out. In the 1st pic, you can see icicles on the gate. There were also quite a few of those which formed yesterday, while the sun was shining, especially where some water ran off of roofs.

There was one small tree down on our road. We have plenty of equipment to remove it, no problem.

All the freezing rain that stuck to trees & bushes yesterday, is still there. Makes the thick pines look cool, but is not good for power lines.

In a couple of weeks, it'll be March. The snow will be gone. Green grass & weeds will be growing. Lookin forward to Spring, a little more this year, than some I can remember.

Did I mention we still have ice covered trees & icicles, from yesterday's freezing rain ?

Yes, I know this is a common occurrence, in lots of places North of us. But, it's not common here.

Agreed...we feel lucky also being just south of Raleigh and no freezing rain.

But...feels like we need to build an ark already.

I got up to see more freezing rain this morning. Thank God I didn't clean off my driveway yesterday. My neighbor's son did his next door to us and it turned into a skating rink. I warned him not to but he didn't listen.

So his sister stayed overnight with their dad last night. She woke me up scraping off her van's windows this morning. I looked out the bedroom window just in time to see her slip and fall on her butt. She was ok but took itty bitty baby steps back to the door.

Only about an inch of snow here from yesterday, but now it's covered with ice. It's still slippery, but right now the freezing rain has turned back to snow.

Still lots of ice, but we now have bright sunshine. So, we'll probably have some thawing today, especially on building roofs.

This thawing will produce lots of long icicles. This 1st pic is of some on the East side of my shop. Some over a foot long. And they are casting shadows.

The bright sun shining on the ice in the trees makes it sparkle, like there are millions of rhinestones in the trees.

Supposed to get back into the teens Sat morning. Then we'll finally have a warming trend.

He works out in the elements everyday 10 hours a day. He’s used to it. He actually likes the cold.

This afternoon, the clouds came back, & the temp dropped back below freezing. The local weatherman said that earlier 33° temp, was the 1st temp above freezing here, since Sat, which is a record period of time - 141 hours.

https://www.myarklamiss.com/weather/...hw5nBlmdXLjF_c

The sunshine had begun to melt some of the ice. But, now the melting has stopped. That has made lots of icicles. The last pic shows one that TJ just brought up from the horse barn. It measured 17".

The ice in the pine trees had also begun to melt. So, there are quite a few icicles now hanging from the pine needles.

Went down our road & removed the tree that was across it. I noticed that some of the small trees & saplings were so top-heavy with ice that they have bent over, some almost 180°.

Temps are now in the 20's & we have what the weatherman called "Freezing Fog". So, I suppose that means that everything the fog's water droplets touch, that is below freezing temp, those droplets will instantly turn to ice.

https://www.weather.gov/safety/fog-freezing

But, the good news is, our temps are suppose to get well up into the 40's today. So, if we get lots of sunshine, we should see quite a bit of ice melting, by late afternoon. Even warmer Sun. So, most of the ice should be gone by Sun nite.

That SHOULD be the last of the major ice we see this winter. Very rare to experience snow/ice here, in Mar. All area drag strips use to be in full swing by the 1st weekend in Mar. Several would usually start in late Feb, or at least have daytime T&T sessions.

Those are short ones. I used to see them hanging from the eves to the ground up in Northern NY every so often. Sometimes 10 to 12 feet long.... depending if they were on the front or backside of the house. And with the temps below zero up there, they hang around until it warmed up.

Dataway, that reminds me of the Ice Storm of '98. Which was nasty as all hell.

Those probly are large for Louisiana.
Should of took pics of ours. Knocked down 3'-4' ones 4 times now. Some 1' wide by 3"-4" thick from the elves.
What's bad is have to use a 7' pole with ice chipper. Try and break them in half 1st cause so dangerous being underneath. Then theres the footing from previous times. Chunks are under knee deep snow. Like walking on slippery rocks.

Yes you did.
This may be the start of the 3-5 year cycle. Had very mild winters past few.

My brother and sister live in Florida.
Keep sending pic's and complaining either how hot or cold it is

We still have damage visible out in the woods from that storm. Messed up a ton of young trees, and old trees. It looks like that picture up here a few times every winter, kind of a strange climate on this mountain, We are on the downwind side of the top, bit less wind, but it dumps more moisture.
