Thoughts on this T/A tribute car?
I've always been more of an early 2nd Gen guy, but this 69 tribute car caught my eye recently and I figured it might be fun to play around with....
Unfortunately, it has an SBC (which of course would be yanked) It's somewhat local, so I plan on taking a closer look over the weekend, but could some of you experts point out some of the differeces or issues that should be looked into?? For all I know, the seller could be a member here, but if you had to put a value on it as is, what would be your top dollar? |

Fiberglass hood or metal? You will want the RA pans so price them out.I think I valued my clone at 20K as a roller with metal hood and upper and lower RA pans.Figure what you could sell the chevy for and what it will cost to do your pontiac.Im not sure if that is the pontiac console or a chevy?Just depends on how correct looking you want it.Tom

Steel hood
His bottom line is actually lower than what you value your clone roller Not looking to make it a 100 point car, just kinda look the part. Interior would stay untouched whether correct or not Basically just sumthin I can play with and not worry about being a numbers car |

Console is definitely camaro, but that's not a huge issue.
It "looks" pretty solid, but of course we all know how that goes. Bring a magnet with you when you look at it.

Really cool car, I'd change that whole drive train and drive it like I stole it. Funny they painted the engine blue

I'd ditch the console... shifter.. cheap valve covers.. and the "clone" treatment and drive it.

I'd ditch the shifter and console and replace it with a stock console and one of the his/hers aftermarket shifters that fit in the stock console. The steering wheel has to go too. Get a repro wood wheel or a stock black wheel. As far as the engine goes, I'd leave it alone. If it runs, maybe put a Flowmaster exhaust to give it some sound. I would not go the route of ram air pans. You'd be into it for a lot and what is it really going to buy you in HP? It's a clone, so unless you're at a show you're just going to get thumbs up wherever you drive it. If you could get that car for $17K I'd say you did well assuming it's no full of bondo.

I did mine after I sold my real TA.When I did it,I left Firebird on the fenders and did not put TransAm on it anywhere.I would use a TA hood with ram air pans no matter what color I did a 69.Just me.Tom

Considering how expensive it is to build a good car, $17-19k sounds like a good deal to me. If it’s poorly done or a bondo bucket, stay away. At that price you can’t do any body work to it or you’ll be upside down on its value.
From the pictures, I like it. |

Love my fake 69 TA.
The one in question looks relatively solid. I would probably put a Pontiac motor in it and drive the hell out of it. |

I'd just put Pontiac power and the right console/shifter in it and drive it. It's a good looking 'fake', 'clone', 'tribute'...and for the people getting their feelings hurt because it's not an authentic '69 TA? That would be their problem, not mine.

I too am in full support of a clone, fake, tribute. I look at it as a compliment to the brand and model. Everyone can not afford a real deal special car but still desire to pursue their dreams. Why would anyone shun that. If you don't want a clone, a fake, a tribute car don't get one, don't build one don't buy one but for those of us that do we surely did not build them to please the folks we do not know. I would put the quality and accuracy of our car up against the very best and for sure know it surpasses multiple "real deal" cars in fit, finish and curb appeal.
*I would never try to sell / pass it off as a real deal car for money, only as cosmetically correct. We are 100% honest when people ask us of its origin and proud of it. We have no shame in owning a car we always desired even a fake as the haters call it. Tim john--- Last edited by Tim john; 02-25-2021 at 07:53 AM. |

I know I can't afford a $100K trailer queen that needs a NOS (insert anything here) for big bucks. These tribute cars are awesome and you can actually drive them. |

OK,having owned a real one here is my rational for doing a clone.A friend had a REAL Swiss Cheese 63 SD car.He sold it and I asked why!He said he kept looking at it and said to himself, would I rather have this 1 in 13 beautiful car or a VW with 100K in the glove box?I used the same analogy, would I rather have this 1 of 697 or a clone with 100K in the glove box?Done deal, sold the car, built my clone and paid off my house and when im driving it there is NO diff.Carry on.Tom
