Had some great talks today with the current owner of the '72 Lemans. I guess I didn't scare him off! He did indeed buy it from my friend Dave at Jefferson 20 years ago!

He has done quite a bit to the car over the years. It certainly is not how I had it but I like the upgrades he has done to it. The 350 is gone and he has installed a Pontiac 400 with a four barrel carburetor, intake headers and cam, trw forges pistons, th400 transmission w/2000 stall converter. It has 2 2\2" exhaust running through flowmaster mufflers out the back. He updated the interior with bucket seats with all new foam and covers, and recovered the rear seat to match. It originally was a bench seat. He also added a his/hers Hurst dual gate shifter form a 69' GTO along with new carpeting. The car was repainted a deeper color of blue He added the rear deck spoiler and hood tach. Most recently he added UMI upper trailing arms as the originals had worn out.

More pics of what it looks like now....

Sounds like the gentlemen has contemplated selling it the past few years because he just doesn't get to enjoy it enough anymore. So there may be some hope there for me. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to chat with him over the phone. Would be nice to take a little road trip to see it again. I guess if he decides he doesn't want to sell, I would at least like to see it!

Well, tried contacting the owner of my former car one last time just before Christmas letting him know I was interested in buying it back. I am guessing he isn't interested in selling the car since he has not responded. Too bad, I guess it's time for me to move on.

Search is on for a decent '71 or '72 Lemans.

I sold my 78 Formula back in 1994 and immediately had seller's regret. I lived in Ga. when I sold it. I was able to track the car down by Googling "1978 Firebird Formula 400, Black and Gold with Red interior". I spotted it under Google Images and knew it was the same car and it was in Michigan. It took me several months to talk the owner into selling it back to me. He did not have a price, but I made an offer and told him nobody else would give him that much for the car. He agreed to sell the car to me. When it arrived back in Georgia, it was wearing the same vanity tag that I had on it when I sold it in 1994. Nothing had changed on the car except for the mileage and tires. Even the paint was still original. All of the records that I let go with the car when I sold it came back with the car. It had gone through a couple of other owners who maintained all of the records on the car... Including all of the gasoline that has ever gone into the car and what the pump price was on that day. Things could not have worked out better as far as finding the car and being able to own it again.

Well, it's been a year since I contacted the gentleman that currently owns the 1972 Lemans I had 20 years ago. Have not heard a thing from him.

On a brighter note, was at a Pontiac show this past summer and I located my Verdoro Green 1969 GTO I owned around the same time as my old Lemans. Was really neat to see it again. I asked if he was interested in selling and he said he would take 30k! At little more than I can afford however. Back in the 90's I paid around $5500 for it. Of course he repainted it and did some motor and rear end up grades.

I miss both cars!
